Hi, I have a friend with an 07 prado turbo diesel, now he wants to add a turbo timer.
Is it really worth the money for a timer? Wouldent it come from factory with 1 if it was really nessesary?
He mainly uses it on road...like most prados ..... but he has hit the beach once in 4months.
He does not thrash it either, its his baby.
thanks 4 any help

07' Prado Turbo Timer?

I thougth the turbo used in the prado ( 1KZ-TE ? ) it's water cooled, this let it more reliability than a non water cooled ..
But it's hard to keep the engine running for a while after a hard driving .. ? and don't think turbo timer it's a really necesary stuff for me ( IMOP ) ..

the new 07 prados are the 1KD-FTE motor- Variable geometery turbo...
I'd fit one if i owned it- because i dont want to fork out the $3000 for a new turbo if it dies.
The reason theyre not fitted from factory is its illegal to leave a vehicle running unnatended.

Sincerely I choose a Pyro Gauge more than a turbo timer .. more in the 1KD-FTV that it's a common rail very sensitive engine ..
Also I recomend be really detailed with oil change .. anycase the ECU drives the engine setting into a safe mode if you pass over X number of EGT ..

I never owned a new Land Cruiser .. less with the common rail D4D engines .. but my local turbo shop expert that owns a Hi Lux with the 1KD-FTV make the oil changes each 2500 km .. with castrol mineral.
And If he do .. and trust it's the better way.
