Never seen the word 'partner' used on any OL thread. 'Handbrake', 'Minister for War and Finance' (AULRO) etc all used with no offense intended and with a bit of oblique OZ humour we all need.
Where I live, and issues I deal with (sustainable commercial fishing) there is a healthy respect of people's rights and orientations, but there is no respect for government self- serving political correctness.
Call him your sugar daddy, grease monkey or something, you obviously care about he and his son. Please don't call him your partner, even though he probably is.
You probably had your beloved's son sitting next to you when typing this in, good on you!!!!!!!!!
Imagine political correctness on Pirate!???????? The US wouldn't have got to the moon if any of those guys like pendy had to deal with pc while they were building a Saturn V out of 'surplus' Range Rover Classics.
To answer the tech - nearly anything is possible and legal with the mish- mash of Landrover trucks and parts. It just comes down to objectives, cost, mech experience and access to parts.
cheers, DL

Take photos as you go, could end up in stickys.
you'll get heaps of help, just try to identify where the son of the love god wants to get before you start, and what is the intended outcome. (save bucks and grief)
Then again (Grasshopper) the journey can be more enlightening than something that just ends up taking up space in the backyard!

You didn't say what engine is in the disco. If it is a v8, you should be ok. The diesel has a different bellhousing.
You will have to use the disco mounts for gearbox and t/case. And the disco handbrake lever and cable. The mounting holes in the chassis rails, are in the same locations.
The early LT230 had problems with wear of the splines in the input gear. Make sure this is checked while the box is out. If the splines on the gearbox mainshaft are worn, they are expen$$ive to replace.
