Lance I just put 33x10.5 BFG on my middie and even though the suspension sagging 2 inch there is still plenty of room although I havent tried it at extreme articulation.If your suspensions good youll have no problems .I think the 35s might cause slight rub when pushed with stock suspension.Im putting a 2 inch lift on tuesday then Im gonna go test it to see how much room I got.What have you got Lance a 73/74?

thanks for the info RoscoFJ73, i've got old style 33" x 12.5" bfg muds on current hilux. don't actually have middy yet, looks like i'll getting one end of nov though. going over on boat to melb to check one out, if all alright, will buy and bring back.
it currently has 31" x 10.5" super diggers on chromes, trying work out if should sell my lux as is then buy middy (if all is ok) then get 35", or buy middy first, swap tyres then sell lux. not sure if i will lose money on sale if lux has 31" compared to 33"

Good luck with the 73 .I wish I had a diesel.AXT do a really good turbo kit for them that works or others have reported good results from fitting supra turbos at a low cost.I am up to date on all the other things I wanted doing so now my next project is the 1HZ motor swap.
I dunno if you cme here very often but there are 5-10 other mwb owners and a few bundeera owners as well.
One more thing there is an article on buying a midie in the nov issue of 4wd monthly.Nothin startling but something to read on the boat on your way to melbonia

Thanks. yeah, have thought about turbo, not sure whether to go first for turbo, dif lock, big tyres (although if swap tyres won't need to worry about that one). will definately need steel bar, have winch to put in. any ideas on prices, esp supra thing, that sounds good
how you going with the engine swap, i read elsewhere that you were considering buying rolling chassis. is that right? have you sorted out whether keeping existing gbox or trf case? would be sick with 1hz, heeps more power/torque
do you mean perth? was over there 3 years ago for a job, absolutely loved it. have family and (few) friends over there, actually they came back here for a wedding week ago, would love to get back over

The rolling chassis project had to be aborted because of budgetry problems.The guy ended up breaking it down and selling the parts off. As for the gearbox I still havent totally worked it out as I always get differing opinions ,so Ive decided to use the proper g/box as my current one feels like it is due for an overhaul anyway,synchonisers ect .Im fairly sure I can use the old t/case.

bummer...my current lux, which i'm pulling bits and pieces off today ready to sell, has a engine swap. reading this and other forums, glad bloke before me did it, sounds like a hair pulling experience...not to say i wouldnt like a bigger donk further down the track

Although it has never been registered, speaking to others with the same engine in same car, say 400 km to about 80 litres...
I did however drive a few turbo diesels b4 buying mine...
Very torquey little buggers, but no revving capabilities, I am one that like to hear an engine sing...
Strong engines though, if you want torque without the hassle of a V8 swap, definately a goer...
Or buy the diesel model and add a 1Hz turbo engine...

At Bayside 4x4 today I was told a guy there had converted a 4500 twin cam into a middie, getting pictures tomorrow at work...
Either that one for a six, or the V8 from a 100 series...
Its all fun and games, the only limits are the budget and Queensland Transport...

I've just been through the homework. I wanted to do the 1FZ FE into a middy thinking it would drop in easily.
It turned out to be cheapest and easiest to go for a V8 cos the adapters are easy to get. Chev or GMH take your pic.
I was doing about 18L/100km on gas on the highway and that was gearing down to 4th and flooring it in a desperate struggle to maintain 100km/h on the uphills.
the V8 from a VL commodore used to get about 9L/100km on the highway in a wagon so I'm hoping to cruise about 12-13L/100km on gas in the middy.
I called a lot of different places (all in Melb) so PM me if you want more specifics

a 33 inch tyre should fit on easily i aint too sure about the 35 though

bigger donk for me is a long term project. mite be getting a turbo sooner than later though after reading posts i have recieved. missus would crack the sads with me big time if i bought a 4b then ripped its heart out for bigger one. maybe later
in regard to tyre sizes, i've been told a 33 will fit but not 35 on rear door. i read (here or elsewhere) that its simply a matter of taking apart bracket, cutting off section that wheel bolts to, and re-weld higher to give clearance with rear bumper (pos other door as well). sorry if bit vague, haven't read this bit for awhile now.

rather than cutting the bracket apart, just add spacers to the door, where the bracket bolts down to...
My olds had to do the same for a 33" tyre, but it was on a 15"x10" rim...
Just adding spacers or making a 'bracket for the bracket' would be heaps easier, for those that dont weld to well i spose anyway...

do you mean add spacer between door and original bracket? or second option make bracket to attach betwwen original bracket and wheel?
both could work i guess also meaning dont end up butchering original bracketry
after all is said and done, wheel wheel carrier off rear bumper would be spronger. is that what u did ruggers, built your own? hard to do/cost much? i'll have a search through members and have a look
