Trail gears is a good setup with good instructions would take 2 days to do the conversion taking your time and making sure everything is rite.

I honestly considered doing the swap for an 86 4runner... in the end it just seemed kinda pointless since I could just buy an 85 4runner and save myself time and trouble.

I could probably see the point in doing it to a gen 2 or later runner, but not really the gen 1.

There is almost as much work converting the solid axle over to a Hi steer setup as doing the IFS swap,eg needs a ifs power box holes drilled in chassi for mounting box, needs shock towers cuting off and front hangers cut off thats if you want it with hoops and front dropd hanger. main diff is it has the shackle tubes in the frame already.

and not lenthening steering shaft and so on looking at it that way it's just as easy eaither way and don't have to sell then buy the older 1.

I have done a sas kit on all 3 generations of the 4runner and I think that they are all about the same. To really do the 1 gen right you have to change just as much stuff.

I am in the US, so I have a little advantage in the way of there are many complete kits on the market, that are priced reasonably and have great instructions. I have done a front and rear IFS lift in a day with a helper who knows what he is doing. It did take atleast 30 beers to complete the job though.

Its comming. We are working real hard with AU and New Zealand dealers to get these kits available in AU at a decent price. I would say that in the next year you will have next to the same access as we do now to parts.
