GQ plastic fans..where to get the cheapest in Melbourne

Post by RN »

Have a GQ petrol 4.2. The original plastic one is cactus, having split. I have seen ebay ones and they vary between $70 to $80 .

I have a set of DC fans from the 80's without shroud but they are a bit of fiddle to mount, then I am up for about $60 for a thermo switch.

I think the original fans are better overall for every day applications.

Anyone got a clue as to locate a new aftermarket replacement fan other than ebay.

I got a diesel one off ebay, it was pretty cheap, and if they send back the petrol one that the previous owner had on it, after they complete the engine exchange, it's yours for nothing.
I'll see if I can get them to include the bits they removed before the send it on to the turbo people, and then I'll have it for you on Friday next week, or the Monday after.
They're supposed to forward the vehicle on first thing Monday, so I'll ring them nice and early and see if I can get them to throw in all the old parts.
Someone may even want what's left of the crap old turbo they took off too.

Just for info:
I originally bought mine at roodogs4wdspares
http://stores.ebay.com.au/ROODOGS-4WD-SPARES

What I then had to do was work out what size I have. I thought all the 4.2EFIs were the same but The efi models have 2 different size fan blades so just need to know the measurement from hole to hole across the fan face where it mounts to the hub, it will be either 135mm or 145mm centre to centre

In the end, at the time I was away and my dizzy died so my wife had it towed to nissan, and I said while its there please stick a fan on - which was $240 fitted.

What I didnt expect was when I asked the guy at ROODOGS to hold the fan while I try and sell it - he just refunded the full amount - which I thought was damm nice

Thanks mate,

there are two petrol fans, a 145mm and the other is 135mm. I need the 135mm.

Is the fan your referring to new, new ish or good second hand one. After a while they tend to crack.

You must have me confused with the NSW mob, I am in Victoria.

Local Nissan dealer always quotes me full price.

Ahh, Victorian Police, so one of the shoot first ask questions later mob ;) And I know this because the news tells me so and they're always able to be believed. Mind you, if there was one chance in nine hundred gazillion, that someone might shoot me, then I'd sure as hell be shooting first and asking questions later myself.

Anyhow, back on topic.

Well, looks like I'm about to go the same route myself with the fan.
They wouldn't fit the diesel fan I sent up to them because one blade was apparently chipped (don't remember that myself, and checked it over pretty well, but I'll have to take their word for it till it gets back from Sydney).
So the verdict is that it's going to still be running a Petrol fan till I can get a diesel one. Looks like ebay here I come as well. Lucky you didn't accept my offer, RN, of the one I thought that I'd have available myself.
