HJ47 and 12HT

Post by krinkncrank »

Has anyone out there put a 12HT into their HJ47? If so, I'd love to see pics of the engine bay to see how you arranged things.

Wondering about the following:

-apparently the 2H alternator won't fit on the 12Ht, and you need an alternator specific to it. Did the 12HT have alternators with external regulators or were they the IC type?

-how to deal with the vsv/EDIC (the 12Ht I'm looking at has the auto tranny and uses a vsv to shut the engine down instead of the whole EDIC system)

-what about the tranny - isn't the H55 the natural choice in this situation?

-how did you route the air intake hose? Did you move the air cleaner, battery, etc?

I don't have the 12HT yet but I'm thinking about the conversion...

I can help iin the intake issue .. but sure that the factory 12H-T alt use a external V regulator box .. as same as 2H .. and thought could be the same alt .. ( or at least looks like the same ).

The 12H-T use VSV not EDIC .. but I'm pretty sure that you can make a EDIC system function in a 12H-T unles the amound ( huge ) of vacc hosess in the thortle body bother you ..

The H55F is the tranny .. ( manual option )

One thing I learned that needs to be added to my truck's electrical system, if the 12HT were installed, is a pair of intake heater relays. I'd also add an after market pyrometer - what sort of connection possibilities are there at the exhaust manifold?

I'd prefer not to have the EDIC, and just use a vsv to shut the engine down - unless there's some reason not to use the vsv.

If I keep the air cleaner on the left side, I will have to have a 180Ëš bend in the air pipe coming into the intake. I don't know how negative an effect that might or might not have on the engine performance. I can't see how it would be significantly more impeding to air flow than routing the pipe 90Ëš out the apron, then up and out a snorkel, which is another possibility. Or putting an air filter out on the wing.

Can't help you with most of it, but the 12HT uses an internally regulated alternator. The 2H, depending on year used the same alternator. The early model HJ60's (up to 1984 I think) used an externally regulated alternator.
