Best worst joke ever pongo ;)

However I have no doubt you'll exhaust all options trying to find an answer in the morning.

As this is still the Tech section and not chit-chat I'll give it a go.

First, Id be moving it off your tank asap as Im sure its fairly dangerous there. Then, head to a wrecker and ask for the rear section of the exhaust of an MQ like yours (assuming you have the standard exhaust) and bolt/weld it on to yours. Problem solved.

Alternatively, if you dont ming furthering the damage to it, get a decent pinch bar or some other form of leverage and just bend it away from your fuel tank. You can also get some heat sheilding if you feel its still too close.

Your welcome. Does it beat RN efforts

My shorty had it about 10mm off it. I never worried about it.

2 inches

any closer and you would definatly want a heat sheild.
I would have a heatsheild on it at 2" aswell. Cold fuel is good fuel, less vapours aswell.

The Vic roads vehicle road worthiness guide states that;

"All mountings must be secure and the exhaust system must have adequate clearance between all other parts of the vehicle and the road."

Thats from page 7 in the following link;
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonl ... /VSI26.pdf

The Vic roads modification guide says;

"No exhaust system whether it be functional or ornamental is to be mounted in such a manner as to create a hazardous situation particularly from hot surfaces or projections."

Thats from section 12 page 5 in the following link;
