oil blow back in air cleaner

Post by allterrain2000 »

Hi guys,

Just wondering what the thoughts are a 94 turbo diesel gq with 250 k on same (4.2) has now started consuming oil and blowing considerable amounts oil into the airbox/cleaner. Is there something blocked? I haven't heard of it before, the truck has good serivce history and only started doing it last 5000 ks.

Cheers

Its unfortunate but the likelyhood is the rings are gone, sounds like you have high blow by. I can't remember if there is one or two breathers on the TD42 rocker cover. If there is two check the one that dosent go to the air box for blockages but I think you'll find its rings if the engine still runs smooth it may have been dusted, if its idle is rough you may have a cracked or damaged piston.

Thanks for that Joel I will pass the bad news on to my mate he wont be happy!

PS Do you know roughly how much he should pay for a rebuild? If he was to go that way?

Cheers

i had same problem after trying for big numbers on dyno with alot of boost dropped all its water, heaps of smoke then shut it off. tried to start it 5 minutes later and idled like a v8 with a massive cam in it with heaps of blow bye = rings, holes in pistons, stuffed head, full rebuild qoute was $9000 u can pick up a td42 for under 4000 if you look hard thats your best bet id say
