sierra getting new heart

Post by PlATiuM »

Hey all,

Today I purchased a 1.6l 16v MPFI motor, adapter kit from suzisports and a haltech E6X ecu. This is to be fitted in my 91 sierra hardtop.

I still have things to get but just after any information or anything I have left out. Thanks

Things to get still:
-high pressure fuel pump
-fuel lines if needed
-swirl pot if needed
-new exhaust & extractors
-new clutch
-timing belt
-plugs, leads, oil, filters (basic full service)

Thanks, can't wait to start it next weekend :) haven't worked on a motor since my mr2 turbo.

sump modify to fit a 1.3 sump and pickup.
bodylift to clear intake manifold or lowing of engine.
may be worth getting injectors cleaned up depending on k's and where ists from.

sierra flywheel and sierra clutch kit.
watch out on extractors. there are 2 diff kinds that fit up but one fouls the engine mount. i have wildcat ones on mine.

usual hoses and stuff for redoing the heater hoses. mine needed some L bends under there to hookup.

time and patience for wiring and such.

Thanks nicbeer, but I’ve never heard of the sump problem before. Guess find more out once I get the new motor. I'm going with a 2inch suspension lift and custom body lift so engine clears.

Also today old motor came out, and new list of things to get.
-throw out bearing
-clutch (throw out bearing has really grinded those triangle plates away)
-fly wheel machined
-engine mounts (passenger side was a clean snap)
-flywheel bearing that little one
-new rear main seal for new motor, do it now so don’t have to later

All I can remember at the moment. Can post pictures of the progress, if anyone is interested.

Also does anyone know of a good engineer that would give me a mod plate for this engine swap, in the Beenleigh area? Thanks

check my members for some of the mpfi swaps also.

the sump i dont think will clear the zook front diff as to where the engine sits

u have to get a 1.3 sump and mod the pickups from the 1.3 and 1.6 into one and bolt is all on.

if u need pics there are some on here and i have them also on this pc somewhere.

How much for the engine if you don't mind me asking? So far the joint Nic used seems to have been the cheapest that I've heard of.

Motor is a G16A MPFI got for 800, haltech kit was 1399.

Just got my clutch, new engine mounts and machined fly wheel today, the motor was picked up yesterday. Just been cleaning the engine bay, gearbox looks brand new. :)

Can't wait to install it this weekend, need to throw a sickie to start. But need the haltech to arrive so I can wire it up, this waiting game sucks :( also going thermo fan with an override switch (for water and to run fan constant) and maybe a little relay circuit to override the switch if I forget to flick it back to auto.

Will keep you's posted. In pictures 1 and 2 you can see my other car the daliy driver.

guessing that for 800 is a engine only no wiring harness/ecu etc? and then u are using the haltech for all wiring and ecu..

yep, 800 just for engine with sensors. works out better in the end. Speedo is cable driven, and tacho see what happens should work. Hopefully all works.

yeps. tach will be fine.

speedo u may need the vss to clear error codes but using afgtermarket ecu should be ok.

where are the error codes going to appear ?

the tacho will also work off the ignition output wire (the one that tells the ecu when to fire the plugs)

Platium , got anyone in mind whos going to tune the ecu , or you going to give it a shot yourself ? you might even want to consider a wideband O2 sensor and controller from haltech they are a couple of hundred dollars , but they are a lot more accurate , and a good tuning tool . You cant rely on the standard O2 sensor for reporting correct AFR's

they will appear on the check engine light if using the original ecu and u hooked up a check light in dash somewhere.

there is a tach output from the vit harness also but as u are going custom ecu then what u have said does make sense.

hey, thanks nicbeer. found that link couple of days ago. me and my mate sorted it out, he welded it all up bare foot so a few little burns.

motors is in now to, wiring mostly done. waiting on fuel pump, new distributor cap, rotor, ignitor and coil, air intake temp sensor, and get a cheap intake fabed up for the time being.

as far as tuning goes, maybe APC at underwood. might look into a wideband o2 sensor, as im interested in the greddy ulitmate for my is200, this unit has autotune so wideband will be handy.

once i get the car to idle i will play with the ISC, thermo fan, and other bits and pieces, like engine light etc. getting it running is number one. with all this rain at the moment i want to do some mud thrashing :D

okie tonight lots of things happened :)

heater hoses i just cut the standard one alot shorter thats about it. not much moding there.

but the exciting part :D i have the new heart running, took a little bit problem with ignition module being faultly, than come home and got zapped by it so it works well, than few hours of playin around on the laptop and a flat battery.

As of 6:40pm sierra started  no exhaust just straight from manifold so lil flames :) so happy right now.

I also have brought a LC-1 wideband kit from america, so tuning will be done by me.

will let ya's know how i go driving to exhaust shop, wonder what cops would say about it lol
