Where'd 5th gear go?

Post by Buggerific »

So I changed my transmission fluid today and I have lost 5th gear...

Every other gear works perfectly but 5th has gone completely. It's not even crunching, there's just nothing there at all.

Any ideas?

Oh Ooohhhh

Which side of the gearbox is the "filler" plug that you un-done, and did it have a bent up washer thingy on it to stop it from comming un-done?

IIRC, drivers side is filler plug, passenger side is bolt that holds a gear in place... must be 5th :?

thats really not good to hear...

year it was indeed the plug on the passenger side that i did...

So is it a bad thing to be driving it until i get it sorted.

So will this have literally only dropped that gear or do 1st, 3rd and 5th use the same shaft?

I wouldnt the 5Th gear selector will be floating around in there somewhere. Might turn nasty and expensive.

See - stick with my basic maintenance principal - if it aint broke don't fix it.

And besides I have more than enough broken things to keep me amused, so why push my luck ?
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
