gettin some names confused there
J pipe sounds alright but i'm just worried about strength. i would like to see some more detailed photo's of one with bracing etc if i could.
Thanks

just brace it from the turbo flange back to the exhaust manifold bolts on the head

Sorry, meant Clarkie..
I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy!
a split pulse low mount brand new to suit a t3 exhaust, and a top mount turbo glide manifold to suit a gt25. (on the truck now like new) Pm me for any info.
j pipes are shit. they cause alot of heat issues in the engine bay, take up heaps of extra space and by the time you have it made up you are only 100 bucs short of a cast manifold for a diesel. we just pulled one out of zeros mq for these reasons

I use a J pipe on my TD42 which works well with no problems to date,if I could have brought a cast/log style one for $350 odd then I would have but in NZ we just dont have that many after market manifolds round any were near that price.the hole install cost me $750 inc s/hand turbo, pipes, fittings etc so it was a real budget build.
Its al relevant to what you want. Tuned length manifold sdon't act like two strokes if the collector design is good and the pipe size in not too big, if you want 10 psi get a log and you will be happy, the tuned length will make the same power at 8 psi but at that who cares! If you want 30 psi do it properly build a tuned lenght manifold, we build our own and have one on the go if anyone wants to host the photos PM me and I'll email them to you (havent bothered with working photos out) At 30 psi a log will be causing restiction and differing back pressures from cylinder to cylinder making it impossible to acheive the same power. Not everyone wants 600 + Hp though so only spend what you need to.
Personally I wouldn't call the manifold I saw from Sandy to be a tuned length in that the pipes intersect at 90 degrees to one another, one feature of a tuned length manifold is the ability to have a smooth flowing collector.
Hey Clarkie those pics are BRILL. Any shots lookin straight over the rad and also of the added on J pipe. What turbo did you use and what truck did you get it off.
Hmmmm, I think I spy a Kemppi Tig in second last pic, the previous model to what I have now.
In my best Homer drawl: mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Kemppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii droooooooool.
Regards Andrew.
We are Tig welders, gravity doesn't worry us.

Alex
Airconditioner hoses. Air/con on a GQ is mounted low on that side of the motor.
No the bigger hoses Turps. The ones coming out of turbo mouth, One has two rubber bends with hoseclips and the other pipe is one piece........can`t see what they connect to.
Alex
If we look at turbo snail head on....the outlet at 9 o clock goes to inlet manifold? The other one in centre of snail goes to air filter unit?
So outlet from air filter (or inlet to be precise) goes to pre filter or snorkel?
Yes the pipe at 9 0'clock goes to the intake. it goes in the intake at th front and the air is compressed in that front housing (compressor housing) then compressed air to intake and exhaust gases out the back of the turbo
Do you have a pic Hokey of the Inlet manifold side. What turbo did ya use? Do you have a list of what is needed apart from turbo and manifold?
I think I will make a manifold myself...........I can weld and have decent gear. Can get a rebuilt turbo here in Scotland. Was gonna buy a kit from Oz but way too much$$$$

Ahh I see. As someone else mentioned. The one to the left is the inlet. If you follow it back. It goes to the aircleaner.
The smaller pipe that goes straight up and over the motor is on the outlet of the turbo and goes to the std inlet.
That hole that can be seen on the aircleaner will be connected to a snorkle at some stage at a guess.

2nd time in this thread that people have thought i had a turbo but i don't and i want one o well
But apart from turbo manifold you'll need water lines, oil lines and have to run them to somewhere (sump, oil pressure gauges???) then piping for the turbo, intercooler if desired (reccomended) maybe work your ignition system a bit. bout all i can think of
as turps said ,the pipe with 2x 90 bends goes to bottom of factory air cleaner which has been repositioned and lifted so pipe can go under it.(pipe is approx 2 3/4" )
Tube coming out the side of air cleaner(3") goes to snorkel as someone said, you can see were it goes in first pic pipe coming out of guard(snorkel is just 3" exhast tube)
Turbo is off a RX7 approx 1990 (HT-18 2S)size wise it seams to work well, but I'm sure if a late model turbo was used it would go quite a bit better again(i'm sure turbo tec has come a long way in last 20 odd years)
I dont use the water cooling on the turbo, has been no need.
I have set max boost at 12psi which works fine, dont use waste gate is controled by fuel.
