computer for tb4.5

Post by AFeral »

Found a Tb45 engine for sale for reasonable money.
but it does not come with the computer.
Does the computer on these engines control just the engine. Or does it involve other areas ie alarm or Stero, climate control etc.
Can anybody think of any problem involved with putting one of these engines into a nissan patrol gq currently running a rb 30 motor ?
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

mate if i were you i woudn't put a 4.5 into a GQ again as i've done it and it isn't really worth the time and money for what gain you get.I did notice more torque than my 4.2 but if i had my time again i would go to a rb30.Since you already have a rb30 engine i would put a rb26 head on it then go from there but it depends wat you are using truck for.you can build a bomb rb 30 engine for alot less than 4.5 but if you still want to go that way if you go aftermarket computer you will need to re program cold start and few other things.just try find standard computer and get nissan to re code as that is what i did

I've fitted two, and auto and a manual and both customers were rapped, I did use a Holden Delco computer as it is fully real time tuneable with the right gear (which I have) and there was a significant increase in power ove both the TB42 and the TB45 in standard form.

From my dyno a TB42 makes about 75 rwkW, a TB45 not tuned about 85 rwkW, and tuned (on low octane fuel and with a gasresearch carb) 107 rwKw.
The vehicle tows a Jayco camper and is a whole gear better off on the hills and returns better economy.

The advantage is the easy install, hoses, steering a/c all fits. A VR -VS 5.0l would still be better, but dearer, tuned I had 129 rwkW out of one that was a stock engine and manual.

Can i just buy and wire in a tb45 computer or does it require lots extra bits to make the computer function.
Any ideas on how much a computer is worth ?
