35's will be good on the Nissan diffs given the lower gearing than Rover standard 3.54, and strong enough too.[/quote]

yea the nissan's are 4:11 ratio  so apparntly they will return my gearing back to stock with 35's......and yea nissans are plenty strong enough to handle 35's  i cant wait!!!! :D

Did you have any problems fitting the top A arm to the centred diff?

nope....cut it off and welded it on top and added in one bit of plate to make it a square ;)

Not really. I cut the tapered bit off the rover housing, and just tacked it (for now) on top of the nissan housing. I got the pinion flange within 3deg of the transfercase flange, so the d-shaft angles should be fine.

I'm pretty sure 4.1's match 33's and 4.3's match 35's.

Yeah I think you are correct but 4.11s are close enough. Disco Dave has 36inch Simex and 4.11s and it is near enough to standard to drive. Standard being 29s on 3.54 diffs. Off road is totally OK, with most steep terrain being negotiated in second low range. So Nissan 4.11s with 35s will be very good - near enough to standard that it won't matter.

Probably right. I run 4.11's with 33's on the road and 34/35's offroad and they are fine with both.

ah, never ended up doing it  not enough money at this stage...may do it later though ;) i ended up using 1" lift nissan fronts with spring spacers and on the rear we made the spring must a little higher off the diff and we used the 2" landrover lift springs in the rear. I dont have any money for new springs and shocks to suit

Does that leave the Disco sitting about 3" over standard?

I guess it probably does  , I was given a brand new set of *suppsodly* 1" lift nissan springs, so i put them in the front with spring spacers top and bottom  anyway theres quite a gap in between the rear housing and spring cup and i put a angle meter on the roof gutter and the car leans about 1 or 2 degrees to the front  so its pretty much bang on and its definetly higer than what we started with so with a little more guard chop it will quite nicely fit 35"s  .......thats when i can afford them of course

cheers

It was finished and functional, with some bits that I was really not happy with, but he couldnt afford to pay for the engineering and to keep his road car and the disco on the road, so now he has sold it, sold the road car, and bought a suzuki escudo. No where near as cool, no where near as good offroad, doesnt sound as good but is better on road. The insurance will also be a heap cheaper.

I can add some pics of it mostly finished if you like?

for the front, the standard nissan arms fit in fine. Use nissan bushes in the chassis end. The panhard has to be a rover/nissan hybrid one. We made up shock mounts that used the original land rover upper mounts. With standard nissan springs the castor needed correcting just a tad (with castor bushes). If you buy some arms with castor bushes in MAKE SURE THEY ARE AROUND THE RIGHT WAY. The ones which came with his nissan diffs were around the wrong way, and when we made plates to correct the castor, it got death shakes. Only noticed it when we took the radius arms out to try standard arms. Standard holes work fine.

On the rear, we used standard rover a frame and trailing arms, with the a frame cut off from the rover housing and fabricated to suit.

If you want to know my honest opinion, go salisbury rear, peg the front CW&P, and get some longfields.

yeah front what i have heard its more of a lubrication thing as the cv would be sprun at such a high rate it would over heat an melt the grease which woulod then melt tthough the cv boot leaving it to cease up very Quickly
but i have heard of ppl that only use there cars for weekend running them for a while with no problem only highway driving is there problem

I have just completed a gq front and 80 rear conversion on mine first drive out of the garage sunday night and i am wrapped so far.
with the rear i used the original mountings for the trailing arms and cut everything else off put the spring mounts on and fabbed up new A frame bracket using the original tappered piece from the top. Then had to make up new brake lines to get them close to the diff (as original go round the mounts i cut off) so made them rover one end and toyota other end. The shock mounts are also cruiser as i was using cruiser shocks anyway(long travel).
The front is all gq and was quite easy except for the extractors had to re fab most of them to miss the tail shaft rrrrrrrr. I am also using the single brakeline setup from gq and made new line from the master cylinder which i also changed to later disco 2 outlet setup using one for the rear through the original proportion valve (just blocking the outlet for the front line) and the other for the front.
Front tail shaft needed shortening and bit of machining for the pinion flange to make reducer for the locator on the tail shaft and new holes drilling. and the rear was fine just machined the inside out for the locator and drilled new holes.
Then just had to fab up the panhard and the steering arm which were pretty easy as the original solid rangy arms fit very snuggly (with little help from sander) into the gq items making them very solid and welded them at the right lengths.
Hope this helps.

Cheers Damo

no i didnt make new shock mounts on the 80 diff i used the 80 ones as i have the later setup with the shocks facing forwards.
The coil mounts i cut off the rangy diffs and rewelded them in place on the diff both front and rear. I will get some pics for you tonight and try posting them might not get them up till tomorrow.
Good luck with it.
