was drivin home yesterday form a 4x4 comp in bamera, about 350km trip each way, 250 km from home lost power, and wouldnt start.
long story short, got RAA out, towed me to Blanchtown, got a tow truck home. all FREE thanks to RAA. got home and checked under the rocker cover, and the cam was broken just in front of the 2nd journal.
has this happened to anyone before, it appears there has been a lack of oil in the head as it is heaps worn.?
at the time i was doing 5500 rpm, 4th gear, about 120 into 50kmh winds trying to cach a truck to sit behind the rest of the way.

snapped cam
Deja-Vu
Yes happened to me just at the top of the hill on the Warego Highway at Plainsland (here in QLD). Car sounded like a supercharger was spooling for about 3 seconds, then I just lost everything.
What caused it was, a quick fix for an oil leak. My car had this anoying oil leak since I bought it. I had replaced and manufactured about 5 sump gaskets, new front oil seal etc etc, nothing fixed it. It turned out it was a grub scre under the timing case cover, and anyway a certain someone had the idea to stop it leaking by putting thread tape around it (on Friday). Driving on monday, and it dies.
What happened was the thread tape came lose, and blocked up the single little tiny oil feed to the head, and yes the cam seized to the head in journal number 2, and broke just in front.
Bought a 2nd hand head complete for ~$350 or something from suzisport, it was off of a coily that had the typical piston skirt failure, but the head was fine. I do wonder if my old cam was an afterarket cam, because my car has never run in the same style anymore, my car is allot more sluggish down low now, but goes a little better from about 3000rpm onward...
That day was the closest my car came to getting a 1600 conversion. Oh well, not to be.
Take Home Message: NEVER!!! use thread tape on anything lubrication related!!!

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
