1HD-T goes Kaboom.now going to sell....

Post by mud4b »

yep on my way to help peter from cityveiw 4x4 park to help clean it after the storm we got 15 mins away when this horrible noise came from the engine bay..

kaboom went the 1hd-t engine in my 80 sahara. it cost me $440 to get it home to the sunshine coast (not too bad a price really), i have since found out that number 2 injector stopped working and it has melted a piston.

so im now after a 1HD-FT ? or FTE?, the multivalve engine to go in. ill be searching pickles and fowlers but i thought i might try on here to see if anyone knows of one? i think they came out of a late 80 or 79 series from memory.back to driving the shiat gu patrol now so not too happy.

cheers mark.

bad luck mate.

The FT was in 95 -97 or 99 from memory and the FTE is onwards.

Good luck with the change over.

A few weeks ago Ryan Jantzen <ryan@citypartsplus.com.au> offered me a low time FTE engine.

mate i see that on there but its useless to me, it has no manifolds or injector pump or loom.. they have a 1hd-t also but dont really want to go down that path for around the same money as i can get one of these new ones for.

Dont ask me how but if you have a look at the figures the 79's appear to be a downrated version of the same donk in the 100's. Dunno if that has any bearing on your decision lol :D

hi bud.
mate the ft are so hard to find, but usually when you do they have higher ks an them and are around the same cost as fte.

electrics do not bother me at all.

Not 100% sure but I suspect that the 100series TE engine has an immobiliser from factory. May be painful.

have also read elsewhere that you need the late model instrument cluster and wiring loom. if your getting an engine from a wrecker you might be able to get all this as a package

for those who are members check this...
http://www.lcool.org/forum/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
100 fte into 105...check the wiring piccy....spag everywhere
the 79 has no intercooler and no imobiliser...but it does have fancy materials in its pistons to cope with the heat....so adding an intercooler later and a chip will be worth the exercise...

Ditto ..

The 1HD-T it's an awesome engine .. why not try to repair and get a rebuild engine that you know the history and do with quality parts ..

I'm a Cruiser guy .. but other option could be a 4BT .. also a nice engine.

yeah had thought about it, it did actually turn over yesterday but has a massive knock on the top end. so it might not be as bad as first thought.

i do not want to fix it due to wanting the upgrade (have wanted this since i had my old 80 sahara so this one was always destined for it.

actually thinking of selling it now and keeping the gu since i do not go 4wding much anymore, i mainly do beach as my mates just dont go proper wheeling anymore and buying a roadcar.. just dont know what to do yet. maybe i could try selling the gu again.

toyota landcruiser 2006 model 4.2lt turbo diesel complete engine, with running gear, only travelled 5,000ks, $6000.

even if its got issues or its out of a 100 series for that price its a steal.
will keep trying to get in contact with him.

Sorry to hear about the kaboom on the 1hd-t.
Was looking at buying an 80 with a 1hd-t, but after reading and hearing
about the big end issues i'm not so sure?

The one i was going to look at had a engine rebuild 20,000kms ago.

How many kms did your engine have on it?
Did the engine give any warning several kms before its end.

hi bud.
mate id say go for it, it only costs 300 bucks for someone to drop the sump and refit new shells.as far as i know it is only the factory shells that had issues.

my engine had 396,000 on it and was due for a timing belt change, had a leaky injector pump and needed the injectors done also, yes it gave me warning but i tried to drive it to somewhere that was not in the middle of nowhere to keep it safe, that is what caused it to let go.

we have now owned 4 saharas 1hdt and 2 1hz 80 series, none have had problems besides this one and then like i said it was more due to lack of looking after.

adjust the tappets or when were your injectors done last?

i missed out today (intensionally) on a 79 series at pickles auctions, it started at 11,000 and sold for 14,250... nearly 200,000ks and flattened roof.

gee did the gu wagon and ute go for cheap though..
