The reason I ask is that I'm trying to decide to SOA the old girl or go coils.
If I go the coils then the idea was to use the 80 series housings to so I would not have to stuff around too much on the housings with pearches, other brackets, geometry and get 30mm increased track into the bargin. Plus I already have dual lockers and dont wat to fork out for two more.

What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

Lol, you love these challenges dont you. Ive got a challenge for you. Graft a 100 series rear pumpkin into an 80 front for me, free of charge.Shadow wrote:ooooDaisy wrote:Can only fit a 60 series diff in the rear of an 80s
Cant in the 80's front as have a high pinon (simliar to hilux carrier) so its not possible.
another challenge laid down
can always splice the whole pumpkin in, pretty sure a few guys on here have done it.

Edit.
Oh just to keep the challenge up I want to keep standard front axles but also keep the same wheel track.
Wally Redevo a.k.a (80ute) does a hybrid front diff that is a flipped 80 housing with a grafted in GQ centre and 80 side gears, 80 C.V's and axles, there is a hell of alot of work that goes into doing this conversion and i think a open hybrid diff will run somewhere close to 5K without gears and lockers.

Yes it is not cheap is it. If he went to that trouble, why didnt he go 100 rear centre with 80 side gears? I understand that they are stronger than the GQ. Or did he do it before they were readily available.Evil 73 wrote:Wally Redevo a.k.a (80ute) does a hybrid front diff that is a flipped 80 housing with a grafted in GQ centre and 80 side gears, 80 C.V's and axles, there is a hell of alot of work that goes into doing this conversion and i think a open hybrid diff will run somewhere close to 5K without gears and lockers.

These have been around for probably 6-8 years AFAIK, so i guess yeah it probably was before other [parts where available.
Just for the record the 100 series factory locker diffs are actually a different size to a standard diff and the 3rd member will not just fit straight into a standard 100 housing or an 80 housing.

Good info, thanks for that. When I do the 80 chassis swap on my midi I am planning on using the 100 centre and axles in the 80 housing with redrilled hub axle studs.
Hey have you got info on what you did to make the midi fit onto the 80 chassis? It looks great.
Cheers.
