boat trailer rego?

Post by j-top paj »

anyone know the process for registering a boat trailer?
i got one of mine registered a couple years ago and when i went for the blue slip they werent sure about the model of trailer it was so we went for the "home made" option.
i remember them saying something about it being made before a certain year and it makes it easier (early 90s, cant remember exactly) and also if its " home made" its easier to register and less paperwork...

so im just wondering how i go about registering another trailer i have..
its built a fair bit better so im not sure if il have trouble getting the slip for it as it doesnt exactly look home made, but i dont know what brand it is :?

I just registered a trailer I rebuilt, and yep, went the home-made option...
(QLD tho.) QLD transport website is really helpful, but after a quick search RTA nsw wasn't quite so good...

NSW: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/rego_new.html

compared with QLD:
http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Re ... _trailers/

Hope this is helpful.

Oh, and free trailers that need rebuilding... are not free. About $700 was the final total...

mine ran out of rego and i had to get a blue slip for it, it was a major pain in the arse as they made me remove the boat from the trailer and take it over a weigh bridge, not easy to drop a 19 foot fibreglass boat onto the front lawn :bad-words: , they also made me put clearance lights on the guards, also had to fix up a few other trivial things. but got it passed eventually. certainately wont allow the rego to expire on it again though

This happened to me too. Its a real pain in the arse removing the boat. I drove down to the boat ramp at high tide and dropped it in and left it there while I went to the weighbridge/blue slip, then went back and retrieved it. Luckily it passed first go but you should really set aside a weekend to do it.

Fri night remove boat, first thing sat morning take trailer for blue slip, spend sat fixing what needs fixing, sat arvo get blue slip, then mon you can get rego for it.

Once you have rego, you can just keep it paid up every year so you dont have to go through all that again.

I thought if you had one of those quick release panels with lights, no. plate and rego label, like supercheap sell, all your trailers were registered :D

Just get a mate to take the boat out fishing for the day and pick him up in the arvo with a nice new regoed trailer. Maybe go for a bit of dusk fishing with him
