Quotes for Locker install

Post by benhl »

Hey all

Got a 4.2GU Wagon and want to lock her up! here's the story:
* Already have ARB front locker (brand new in box)
* ALready have old style ARB Comperssor (brand new in box)
* Already have 4.6 diff gears F&R ready to go in (brand new in box)

This is what i'm in need of:
* Supply rear ARB locker
* Supply/trade in or whatever old compressor for new ARB high flow unit
* Fit 2 x lockers and Compressor ASAP - going to moreton island in a weeks time would love to have them in by then but not the end of the world if not possible

Fairly simple eh... apparently not. Went straight to ARB first for an out of the book quote - which i got - coming in arouns $2400, then thought i'd shop around. Again done this and have found that ARB (we all know what that stands for) are the CHEAPEST!!! What the fark is going on there?????

What i'm after is advice, or offers/quotes for this work. I'd like to have it all properly installed etc with backlash/preload/bearing torque all done to spec. If anyone can help please let me know, i've got 4 quotes so far including on the Gold Coast and am just shocked that this is the case!!

that sounds a fair price for supply of rear locker and install both plus install compressor. not saying that other places don't know how to do it but with ARB at least they know exactly what their doing as the do them day in day out.

My Fiance recently gave me a voucher for $2000 from ARB for a front air locker, hi flow ARB compressor and tyre inflation kit. This was a fully installed price.

If that price includes fitting the 4.6 gears it doesn't sound like a bad deal. ARB hadn't put their price for fitting lockers up earlier this year and every mechanic I talked to said it's too cheep and really just covers their labour costs. You will get charged nearly as much to swap your centre for another than you do to fit a locker, so other mechanics often charge more for fitting lockers than ARB.

I think thats an alright deal considering the work you're getting done, not cheap, but you want it done properly don't you?

Front ARB Locker seals

Post by JAFO74 »

WARNING Please check your seals that ARB supplied with the front locker. My mate and I just went to install my locker in the Mav and ARB had supplied the incorrect seals meaning we were stuffed!!! They have recognised that there has been a stuff up and will supply the seal BUT it you go to do the install on a Saturday arvo as we did you cannot finish the job until they arrive. Just an idea to check before you pull everything apart.

try boab 4x4 at lawnton they were the best we found a few months back. and they actually use a professional diff lapping joint to fit the locker to the centre n set the backlash.

ok i sent my front and rear lockers to the diff shop and had them installed in centres with 4.6's in them and it cost me $200. so add another $265 For a new type air compressor(the big arb job) an add $1250 for your rear locker and some diff oil
$1715 and install the rest yourself easy as pie
