Try running a business where you only sell 10 histeer kits per year and every customer wants to screw you to get the cheapest price. There's not enough of a market in Aus to have these parts made in bulk and pass on the savings. I personally know the people behind Superior and ABT and they're definately NOT in it for the money!

Especially with the current dollar, it is cheaper to import stuff.
I just got my Trail Gear Histeer an in total, it cost me $980 delivered to my front door and the Aussie dollar was only 84c.

Local Trail Gear supplier is now Yuri 4x4 (Link is below) he is @ toowoomba.

The main reason it is cheaper to import is we don't have to pay for taxes when we import stuff. If we buy local we pay all the taxes on it.

Yeah as staited by bee bee and i happen to have heard a cost for one of these products and it's above whay you can import for yourself so they ain't in it for the $ I think alot of it has to do with the taxes bussines has to pay on such items in the long run they loose out.

allot of the cost is in all of the bullshit not the actual product. if more people bought at home in aus the cost might be a bit more competitive. everyone wants better wages and pay rises but when it comes to being the consumer you want to buy something from overseas not made in aus because it's cheaper to produce when the worker who is making the products is on crap wages. have some balls and buy australian.

You can get some advantages from globalization and Comerciala agremeent with other contries ..

If in US can made off road stuff cheaper .. and you get rasonable price in shiping .. why not .. ?

I'm sure there are some other stuff can be made in AUS more cheaper than US and they gotta import it ..

I have imported a few things from the the US and the experience is 50/50 positive/negative. Like freight prices get hiked etc.

Tyres are another thing that isn't comparative. Like 33" BFG MT's for $121Usd. Freight would be a killer though.

Surely if you bought enough crap of the one mob they'd try to look after you with freight. I know its not cheap, but i'd assume that with all of us being in the same hobby/family (4x4's), they'd try to help you with feight costs. But there's always the diggers out there too i spose....

Dave i was just over at Lockedup.com.au and mate if you guys are also shipping these for the right money to the customer your going to have your work cut out for you.

The prob Australia has had in this industry is there are too many guys trying to make huge profit from importing offroad products into Aus. So most end users are just bringing it in themselves. Money is Money and we all need it to live. If you can buy the product at a 3rd of the price overseas then no matter how good the "service" you will get buying it localy is your going to send your $ overseas.

But with the current prices you have listed at the moment i wouldnt bother importing it myself. Good Luck and i really hope it works out for you and the offroad community here in Aus.

PS, Please contact me regarding this give away.

Tony this is exactly what we are trying to achieve to make it so people dont have to go to the US to buy the stuff they can get it here for near the same cost as bringing it in themselves maybe sometimes cheaper :D

Hopefully people will get behind us and we can get some more trucks built with quality parts at reasonable prices.

Thanks

Yep, ditto. I was going to post the same but thought i'd sound like too much of a suck.

Going off your listed prices Bulldogy, i'm guessing that the small difference (NOTE: very small) in the manufacturers listed prices and locktup4x4's prices is your cut/profit in the whole deal? You guys are doing a real favour for people who want to/are into the 4x4 scene but are too "financially challenged" to buy in the local market.

Its also great to see someone with the nouse to get out and make a business where there is a great market opportunity - but very few players in the field that are actually willing to help us, rather than helping their own wallets.

Good luck to you guys, the site looks great, well laid out & easy to use. Are you planning on adding any more suppliers (SKY etc)? I also reckon a little box in the quote ordering page with "Extra Details" or similar would be great, so we can ask about getting unlisted products, rather than filling out another form and you guys getting swamped with double emails.

Cheers!!! - Coxy

looks like i opened up a can of worms. but someone had to say it. i know a couple of people in the motorcross scene who import a reasonable amont of stuff from home and run this business after work. they only make a small amount on the stuff but if they ever want anything its always free cause they have a constant flow of merchandice this also includes 1 free trip a year . but they never made or turned over a lot in the first 2 years . but 7 years down the track prices have vaired minamal and flow of merchandice has gone from 1 pallet every 2 months to 1 container every 2 months. so if this is what u plan on doing dave good luck and hope it works out . i will be ordering this week
