quick tyre questions (hopefully)

just wondering how much of an impact the weights used to balance a tyre affect its rotation on the front end?

i have recently put my JT's on and noticed the front left doesn't have any weights on the outside of the rim and all others have 2 large and 1 small weight on the outside.

i have noticed a major front end wobble at certain speeds (happened previously when the jt's were on before but not when the AT's were on).. i have recently replaced bushes in the front end (replaced rubber with poly bushes), replaced a broken castor wedge and checked that ubolts are tight..

checked steering play and wheelbearing play when i put the JT's on. no considerable play in either.

is this one tyre with no weights enough to make it wobble at certain speeds? it doesnt happen all the time but sometimes a bump will set it off.. gets a bit violent so much so i have to slow down..

I'm going to swap it with the spare (all tyres have regular wear due to rotating often) when it stops raining anyway but would like to know if its a factor.

Id get them all rebalanced again or at least the one with no weights on it.. these are rag tyres and will wobble on the best of days. they generally come good when ya get a bit of heat into them.

maybe check all ya wheel bearings etc..

My troopy had a similar wobble - it got so bad i sometimes hat to slow to a crawl - when i went from 35's to 37's. Turns out the steering dampener couldn't keep up - OME dampener fixed it. Might be worth a look anyway as i can't see wheel balance causing something that bad.

ive got a fairly recent ome dampener on my for sale 40 but I didnt swap it across because i couldn't get it off.. I might have to try a bit harder .. thanks for the suggestion.. its the one thing i dont know the condition of.

migh tcheck this too.. I've noticed that after last 2 balances, that the pricks reuse old weights and they dont seem to bash them on properly.. we used the stick on weights in teh bike shop,they were never a problem.

tried swapping steering dampeners but i couldn't get the mounting pins off the donour..

so tonight i swapped the spare over and what do you know.. those little wieghts DO make a difference!

went for a long drive and there was no sign of the wobble that was there before.. the 40 drives great now!

We can never get the stick ons to stay on, duct tape helps tho
