GQ and GU rear lower control arms?

is there and length difference or bush difference between GQ and GU rear lower control arms?

pretty sure they are both 677mm.
put a tape measure in your glovebox and go to the biggest carpark you can find.

The bushes are the same.

Looking at my parts lists, they are the same, but... i am only 99.9% sure

they are the same length and bush size but some [all] gu wagon ones have a vibration damper on them [ GU utes dont]

THis vibration damper, can some one give me an idea of what it looks like?

i have seen some GU wagons that seem to have some sort of mount with a small drum/wheel type do dackie on it?

is this what it is?

If so, how do aftermarket lower control arms vary between GQ and GU, or do the GU ones come with this do dackie

yep that's what it is. some GQ wagons have them on the upper arms too.
I don't know if the aftremarket ones bother with it or not?

I do this heaps - missus gets embarassed...good way to check out other peoples mods and methods...good source of ideas.

probably costs about $20 in materials to build each of these links, I don't know if these bushes are gonna be too restrictive yet though.

Bit of money there Wendle in those 16 ome bushes aint there i paid like 76 bucks or so for 4 sets ( to do 2 arms ) but that was also with labour 4 pushin out the original steel sleeved bushes :bad-words:

Ya new arms look coool hopefully no more bendys

yeah, I got 'em wholesale but was still $65 a set or something. So the ARB dudes aren't ripping anyone off, there is fuk all mark-up on their stuff.

this is what I am worried about. I still haven't put any in the truck, but you can get a lot of misalignment out of them by just twisting the crush tube by hand, so I think they wil be fine. ?? I'll know soon enough anyway..

I don't think the bush will be the problem but will the outer sleeve bottom out inside the mount first. :?:

those ones there are about 677, but they are front links, the rear lowers I can't get a finished length on untill I weld the mounts on but they will be around 1000.
I was gonna try and get it all done this week, but I have a club trip on this weekend, so it can wait a bit longer...

i reckon the nissan bushes flex better sideways but the poly bushes flex better vertically.
if you make the arms so they have a twist joint then the poly bushes would be great.

Square tube is strong. I've been looking into this over the last couple of days, and square is considerably stronger than round for a similar size. I'm suprised more people don't use it. I guess it doesn't look as nice.

This is 100% correct. SHS is MUCH better in bending than equivalent kg /m or diameter CHS. Also good in torsion like CHS.

As for jamming the SHS inside the SHS, why not just go for a bigger wall thickness and a higher grade steel? They make SHS in Grade 450. Can check the max wall thickness in a 40x40 tomorrow.

The reason for jamming SHS inside SHS would be to get a thicker wall than is available. I thought 40x40 was limited to a 3mm wall, but just checking on the OneSteel website, it does come with a 4mm wall. If you jammed a 35 into a 40 you'd effectively have a 5.5mm wall. Looking at it, the extra strength gain probably isn't worth it, so the 40x40x4 would be the easiest option.

I can check at work tomorrow, but I would think a 40x40x4 is available in Grade 450 as well.
