3F gas problems

G'day all,

Got a problem with my FJ73 with a 3F running on gas. It will idle on gas, but any throttle input will cause it to stumble and die. Can restart it on gas but again dies once you throttle it. Bit of back ground, few weeks ago radiator blew, fitted new one, bleed cooling system and bleed it at converter too and still no good. Both heather lines to and from the converter are hot so no problems there. Other than that i dont know why it would after sitting for about 2 weeks no longer run on gas. On petrol its fun. Anyone know what it could be? Its a complex converter, simple mixer setup too.

Check the in-line LPG filters in the service line.

If you have a backfire or small pop, this can damage the diaphragm in the mixer.

It has a BBQ ring type mixer so backfire will not affect.
First thing I would try is to make sure the excess flow valve has not been tripped for some funny reason, what you need to do is (with the car off) turn the gas service tap off at the tank and give the tank a couple of bangs just with the palm of your hand and than turn it back on again, this should reset the valve, if thats what it is.
Next make sure that your air filter is not bloakjed or that air supply to the engine is not restricted, I have seen a rag stuck in a snorkel before!!!
If that don't work you can try to adjust the power valve to get more out of it. I am assuming you don't have a gas computer fitted???? If you dont on the vapour line from the convertor to the mixer will be a valve in the hose somewhere, what you need to do is lift the revs up to 2500rpm, if you cant get it there try to lift it as high as they will go anyway, than wind the power valve out slowly and listen if your engine revs increase if they do get it to 2500rpm and wind the valve out till you don;t hear the revs increase anymore than hold the revs steady again at 2500rpm wind the power valve IN slowly untill you hear the engine revs drop a little that SLOWLY bring the valve out again till you hear the engine run its strongest and than give it about quater of a turn out further to provide it with a safety factor.
If you can't lift your revs up at all I would mark the original position of the valve and while its idling open the valve out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn at a time and try to rev the thing till you can get the 2500rpm out of it than do as above.
Changing the power valve will tend to change the idle setting also so you need to hold the throttle at the point that it will run at its LOWEST rpm and slowly wind the idle screw in (in if you had to wind the power valve out in the previous steps) or out till you can get it to idle right.
