Cylinder head temp vs coolant temp
Cylinder head temp vs coolant temp
I'm putting in an aftermarket temp gauge prior to installing the turbo on the TD42, so I can track accurately what difference if any the turbo makes to operating temperatures. Will a cylinder head temp gauge give a more accurate picture of this, compared to a coolant temp gauge?
the coolant temp sensor will give you a better temp reading than the head sensor. Water/coolant absorbs/removes heat more than 50 times better than metal. The coolant sensor will give you a better reading of the temp in the block and i think will be less effected by the extra heat in the engin bay from the turbo etc.
I have a block temp guage, the water temp can go up and down and the block temp soon follows. The block guage tells me if the cooling system isn't copeing/recovering.
I get more worried when my block temp gets hot than when the water temp goes up.
Best would be to have both.
