Rego question... just a quickie!

Post by Mechman »

Hi Guys..
Im new to rego'ing a car here. I have an FJ40 with some mods that have plates on and i have checked the codes on them and they match the mods. the question is, do i need any other documentation when i rego the beast... ie engineers report, or does the mod plate mean its been approved.
also, will i need the purchace recipt?

thanks guys...

Talk to the local QLD transport office or a local Approved inspection station - they will be more accurate on what is required for your given situation, and can inspect the vehicle (a fee may apply for their time) briefly to assist you in the rego process.

If the vehicle is currently unreg in the state you live in, you will have to arrange a temp rego slip, think it's called an A to B pass, so you can get it to the inspection station, usually lasts for one day.

Yes you will need your purchase receipt, the stamp duty will be calculated from the purchase price, as well as showing some form of ownership of the vehicle.

How long have you had the vehicle? Has it been registered in Aus before or have you moved from overseas? You will need some form of ownership paper to prove to them that it is legally yours, sometimes vehicles can drop off the rego system, even if they have been registered in the same state before - this has happened to me. The DOT will have no record of who the vehicle belongs to. There are ways around it, but you can't talk about those things on a public forum.

I don't know if this would work to help establish ownership - If you have the name of the previous owner, you can enquire with the police to confirm that the vehicle hasn't been reported stolen, they will not give you any details, but they may be able to confirm the name of the previous owner if you supply it to them. This way you have established to the DOT that the rig is not stolen, and you had enough details about the previous owner to have them (DOT) understand the situation. DOT may have the previous owner on file also, you can then confirm with them the details you have on them to help it go smoother.

My rig also had blue plates for mods that were not on their system (only for replacement seats) so it was an easy thing to get approved by my inspection officer.

Hopefully your rig has an uncomplicated history to make it easier to rego.

i have had the vehicle about 7 months now. She has been registered here in QLD before, but i am not sure if it is with the owner i brought her from
as he started the project when i brought her.

I think he is still living in the same place, so i may just pay him a visit to see if he will write a letter.

if i run into problems, may i PM you for some "other" suggestions?
