Unless its really flat terrain, your fuel consumption will go through the roof if you use cruise while towing.

I just returned from a trip to Melbourne from Sydney and return.
On the freeway I used cruise, but had to intervene on long hills by changing down to auto third to maintain 100Kmh, and often accelerating manually before oncoming hills.
My cruise is aftrmarket and drops out if you lose more than 10Kmh.

I do.

However as stated cruise is reactive so it will slow you down in the hilly bits so I only use it on the relatively flat bits.
