hey there everyone, just curious, i'm interested in fitting lpg to my old hilux, make it a bit cheaper to run is my only option to go to a lpg fitter? i see people selling the tanks on ebay, and other than that, i just need what? some adapter to fit on the carby or..... what? if theres a kit designed for a vh commodore for example...can i mod it to fit to my lux? use all the parts and then just change the carby or whatever for one that is compatible? i have no idea on lpg fitting or how it works so i thought id start here.
thanks guys

The thing with LPG is the VAPORISOR and MIXER and there output of air/fuel mix to the intake manifold. Then you have to consider which system you are buying second hand, negative pressure, positive pressure or direct injection. The mixer from a Comm wont fit your intake manifold, so an adapter is needed. I did this once for a 1972 Toyota Crown. I made the adapter plate. Also, now days you need a feedback system that monitors the CO emissions, (computer). The Comm system might have one, but do you know how to set it up to work on your engine?
There is a lot to know about LPG installation. I suggest talking to a few LPG installers in person and find out if they are prepared to install S/Hand components before you buy them. They have to certify it in the end for Rego purposes. Where are you?

for starters LPG MUST be fitted by a qualified fitter, (not your backyard mechanic), its a bit more involved than just bolting on parts and turning the key, and the rebate does not apply to second hand conversions, why not just get it done properly as for a basic system on your lux the rebate would cover it in total.
No it can be fitted by anyone. It just needs to be inspected and certified by an approved LPG station.TOY-08V wrote:for starters LPG MUST be fitted by a qualified fitter.
Incorrect. It applies to new and second hand. I have not long received the rebate on a second hand kit. My wife is about to receive the rebate for a second hand kit as well.and the rebate does not apply to second hand conversions,
