intercooler on 78/79 td

Post by known 2 »

hey guys considering buying a factory turbo troopie. and am probly going to intercool it strait away. i'd prefer to run a air-air intercooler, but is there any room up front to put it there or would i be forced to use a top mount.

Option B is to use water-air type. are these as efective as the other type and would it be worth running 2 to lower egt's further.

hey tuff75' i'l do a search for what u said but could u post a link allso.

i read that thread above about intercoolers and seems like theres no right way to do it. on a 79/78 cos there is such lil room intfront of radiator seems like a larger top mount with a fan would be the way to go.

As I said in the other link - an intercooler really helps with a turbo, my egt's are running much lower now and I can run a higher boost. I did a whole pile of research on intercoolers and most of it went flying out the window when I called the guy at Bell intercoolers and all he said was to put as big an intercooler on my truck as possible - pretty technical eh.

wicked it's what i thought . looks like i'll go top mount and try to keep some air flowing to my radiator.

I dont think that top mount is as efficient as the front mount, but might be better for your hotter environment there. I heard somewhere that top mount is about 40 percent less effective - don't know if it's true though.
