2002 SR5 power antenna

Post by SR-5 »

Hi guys

Just bought my first hilux, and have installed a aftermarket h/u carried over from my old EL Fairmont. I have used adaptor harnesses from the h/u (JVC) to ISO to the Toyota harness. Everything works fine except the power antenna does not go down when I select anything other than radio (CD, AUX in etc). Its annoying because i usually listen to CD's and a few of the carparks i go to regularly, plus my garage dont have the height to allow the aerial to go through without a bit of bending. I did notice on the adapter harness the power antenna wire is jumpered between two terminals, dont get why.

In the old car the power antenna wire from the h/u was a direct connection to the antenna, if someone knows what colour im looking for on the Hilux i'll try and remove the jumper and see if that makes a difference. Or if there is another fix please let me know.

Cheers.

I had the same prob when i put my new stereo in and from memory i cut the ariel wire from the new unit and extended both ends of the wire enough to go through dash and used cheap on/off swith. This cuts the power to the ariel and makes it go down.

found the drama.

When you buy aeropro adapter harnesses for new head units (usually say JVC to ISO then to Toyota/Nissan etc) the JVC ones do not have two pin outs for power antenna/amplifier remote, instead they just run the power antenna from the amp remote, hence why the antenna doesn't come down when u select CD.

The small sockets from the JVC connector dont fit the aeropro ones either. Only solution is to either find the same sockets as aeropro use and add the extra wire OR switch the 12v to the antenna like above, which i intend to do.
