I would not regard anything from a mine as being a quality item. I don't know any mines with a 40,000km policy. More like a "has the seat actaully fallen through the floor yet from rust and does ti have enough compression to start" policy.

yep, mine cars have one of the hardest lifes in the car world. Drive it like its free comes to mind with them.

I dont see massive advantages to swapping over to a 1HD-FT from the 1HD-t. A bit more power ................... and what else?

A rebuild might be your cheapest option still, and be more reliable then a second hand 1HD-FT

good lucj which ever way you go (except for the keepin the GU part, that shits just wrong :finger: )

Hey All,

Well another 1HD-T Has gone BANG!!! Mums 80 series yesterday arvo/ last night, driving home from mooloolaba and screaming down the bruce highway doing 120km/h dropped all the coolant and mum being none the wiser kept driving until the car started filling with smoke, Not steam from the coolant, it was the oil burning. I drove from brisbane to the glasshouse to make sure mum was okay, she was in the overtaking lane and couldnt pull over quick enough cause the smoke and smell was so bad, so had to stop on the RHS of the road, car half off the overtaking lane. So when i got there the traffic had died down a bit so my girlfriend and i snatch strapped it across to the LHS of the road before some one was killed as there wasnt enough room for 2 cars side by side!! It was good, it broke down right out the front of the mobil fast food servo there at the glass house mountains.

We started pulling the engine apart today, it cranks over, has compression in 2 cylinders, no knocks or bangs, oil smells like shit!!! It was that hot the paint is burnt off the block, melted the tappet cover and a couple plastic vacuum hose holders, there is melted alloy over a couple of the injectors so we are expecting a hole or two in the pistons, the compressor side of the turbo is full of oil so the seals are as good as ******, will finish pulling the head off tomorrow, but she aint looking good!!! this is complete rebuild number 2, we are hoping the block is okay as well as the crank because last rebuilt the crank was machined to the max and the block was bored to the max so fingers crossed!!!! but its not looking good

and i recieved news its going to cost $1800 to get the injector pump on my 1hd-t done and the injectors are $120 if single spring or 280 if double spring . Not having a good run!!!

gotta keep smiling  one more thing to cross off the to-do-list!!!

So why did it loose the coolant? Makes me wonder why I still haven't fitted that low coolant alarm sitting in the shed.

All the 1HD-T's (all factory turbos) injectors are 2 stage or dual spring.

These guy's will be able to get all top quality engine parts and kits for you.
http://www.smsdiesel.com.au/main_pages/home.html.

As for the sleeves, all the hz and hd engines are a parent bore block, but sleeves can be fitted by a reputable machine shop.
I have a HZ engine block that has been sleeved back to std size. So i know it can be done. I was going to build this HZ and fit it into my 60, but thats not gona happen now that i have an 80 on the way.

sms diesel aswell as Don Kyatt....also whole kits of questionable quality are available on ebay through roo-dogs username...noone ive heard of has been unhappy with his gear...roughly 1300 for 6 pistons and everything else...rip it appart and check for bore scores first...if you only have a holy piston, your a lucky boy...ACl brand make pistons and rings for the hdt, while your there, get the rods closed and honed and new rod bolts too....

well i now know exactly what caused the engine to fail.
i figured i would share this as i feel not too many people would know this.

my injector pump was due for a rebuild as we all knew, the front seal had gone and was leaking (you cannot tell this unless you pull the pump) and when it does this it leaks diesel straight into the gear drive section (injector pump, power steer pump, ect) and mixes with the oil. this is what happened, the engine failed because of diluted oil from the diesel mixing with it. nothing is broken though like i first thought, it just needs a rebuild (new bearings and rings).
