Altenator Options For A G16a Vit Motor
G'day, I run an injected 1.6 vitara motor in my sierra. The old 50amp altenator called it quits over the weekend so im in the market for a newy. Are there any options from other cars available with more ampage which fit in easily or should i stick with a 50amp one. Either getting this one reconditioned, one from a wrecker or a new one? What do others run? I figure this is the standard output for a vitara altenator?

Do a search on Ford alternators into sierras. I have a EL falcon alternator in mine - 100amp this is a pretty easy swap into a sierra, but it is bigger so your power steer box might be an issue. the other "catch" is that you need a single V pulley from a X? up to about EB fitted to the EL alternator as EL's run a multi v belt.
I can't see any reason why an alternator can't be mounted on the other side where the A/C normally is, if you're prepared to do the stuffing around with the brackets.

I had an EL falcon Mitsubishi type alternator on mine. They come in two varieties, Bosch and Mitsubishi.
From memory, the bosch is 110 amps, the Mitsubishi is 120 amps.
We basicly modified the original Suzuki bracket, adding some reinforcing to make it stable.
The only dramas we had were spinning off the standard Suzi pulley (I lost three), so we welded the fourth one on and no problems. The next big drama is making the belts grip. From idle with the roof and spot lights on, it would slip the belt.
If you could modify it to run either the falcon style multi-vee belt, or two vee belts it shouldn't be a drama. With a falcon alternator, you will not have any problems charging the battery.

2000 SR-5 turbo diesel, dual airlockers, bit of a lift, some 15x8 sunnies, 32" bighorns, a few spotties, and a wireless, and a kiddie seat in the back.
My Sierra has a swift/barina engine. I have used all multi V pulleys.
I have vit power steer, not on a wedge, but flat on chassis.
Does this mean an EL is an easy fit?
Mine is complaining about years of mud and stuff.
Swift ones 2nd hand are usually clean and good.
