None wants to help when it come to the old SD33!! What colour smaoke mate?? thats the big question when it comes to a diesel. More than likely just dribbley injectors, air filter maybe. Small drops in the compression as the engine wears mean that not all the fuel is burnt thus black smoke, this is a minor adjusment to max fuel on the injector pump..
Ive got a SWB SD33 It was a non-turbo and had a std nissan turbo from the SD33t fitted when it only had 50,000km on the clock in 1987.
Its now got 400,000Km on the same motor.. Ok so i had to put a new head on it at about 350,000. Still running the original bottom end!! Unreal donk..
Not that this helps much mate

hi ya Sterlo
yep, its the original donk, top and bottom only ever had a waterpump go on me. Got to it before the head went
anyhows, ive just checked the engine dipstick and seems like ive over filled it slightly, properly the cause of the black smoke under power. but iam thinking the injectors might need a service too.
air should be fine. i do filters around the 10k mark, so shouldent be a drama there.
i used to take it to a joint in manly called harbord4x4, but theve since moved on to somewhere else.
any further hints on where to take it?

if its black smoke under power then its just unburnt fuel. your engine will always do this under load, unless its under fueled. be happy with that unless the smoke is billowing out!
now if its blue smoke, then you have something to worry about, thats oil burning...
