I have a ww2 Stormberg on my 4.4 in my 81 2 door and she keeps flodding on steep hills, Had a holly which was even worse would the rover twin carb set up work at steep angles Better and were can i get a spacer kit for a rover manifold-Do i need one???

mine never stopped on steep inclines or decline unless the air filters were restricted/dirty, but it did run a heap better after replacing the shafts and butterflies i have had no further dramas

Agreed holleys don't like hills, well the one fitted to my car didn't. Some people have successfully got them to work offroad, but not me or my mechanics. Yes you will need spacers if your putting a standard rover V8 manifold onto the P76 block and heads, these are availale from the Rova Centre in Melbourne. I spoke to them about 2 monthas ago and they had them in stock.

My 4.4 (now 5L) runs the std manifold and twin carb set up and will run upside down on hills. It is rejetted though to try and increase HP.
However, this weekend I am putting on a brand new WILLPOWER manifold to suit a 4 barrel and bolting in a Holley Projection Unit. Should go like the clappers!!! I have heard the adapter kits leak...

This is why I like the Rover 3.5 or 3.9 engines. Might be gutless but less hassles which IMO are prioroty over HP Plus strommies shit all over any other carb off-road regardless of what you can do to others, they can be a PIA but this is only if you bugger around with them. Just keep it simple I say
The manifold spacers can have vaccum leaks if fitted badly but nothing silicon can't fix

Im running a modded 350 holly and ive got it working good on hills now ive moved the float bowl breather ...
Trick with the holly is to plug the original breather tube as fuel just pours out it on any sorta incline and flods the ventri what i did was to drill a hole in the top of the float bowl in the center and cut a hole in the base plate of the air cleaner for the tube to stick up into the inside of the filtered section of the air cleaner as i use a small air cleaner which is only big enough to fit round the top of the holly i had to cut a hole in through the rubber and then a hole in the internal mesh screen and i use a short peice of rubber hose and run it just over the back of the ventri and this works great on any angle up down or side slope

Thanks for all the replies guy's, Got a set of Strommies yesterday from what i have read the spacers do tead to leak, So i have designed a Y piece adaptor to bolt onto the Leyland manifold and will take the 2 strommies Which should not be to hard to fabricate.

My spacers leaked a little till eventually I had to pull the thing apart (burnt exhaust valve) about 5 years ago.
Put it back together with new gaskets and gasket goo.
Never leaked since!
(had to fabricate spacer to manifold gasket - wasn't going to use a 3.5 valley gasket)

obviously not an economical beast then. Thinking I may stick with a 3.5 or 3.9 as I want to do quite a bit of travel , the 4.4 might be too thirsty. Hey Bighad, I've just been through this exercise - was advised to stick with the 3.9 (had to be rebuilt though - due to overheating issues/melt down & blown head gasket) as there are plenty of spares and the motor is stronger than the P76. I haven't done the install on the rebuilt motor yet so can't compare it to my old P76 from the 2 door rangie. Good luck either way

I havent gone far since I put the Holley on so dont know what that is giving. Would be interested in figures for EFI'd P76s if anyone has them. I have a spare 3.5 flapper I was thinking of putting on but not sure if it would be worthwhile.
Is there a noticable difference between a 3.5 and 3.9, 3.9s are still fetching big money here and I have a couple of 3.5s. You always expect the bigger to be better but is it worth the cost?

Cut the Mounting points off the Rover 3.5 manifold today (What a Prick) and spent about 2 hours smoothing it out, Also removed my Leyland manifold off the Rangie, Removed Carby and then it flew though the air landed somewere down the back yard, Cut down mounting point on manifold to take the rover mounting points.
Just got to get it welded up next week and back on.

Must get mine finished too. I have left the riser on the P76 manifold and matched it to the rover ports. Just need to remove the throttle mountings and make a jig to line them up so it can all be welded.
Might give the flapper injection a go on the 110, if I get near Euans figures it wont be too bad.
