3 Link + Panhard questions!

Post by paulio1 »

I currently have a 3 link + panhard rod setup - running spings and shocks. (On a 95' hilux single cab front end)

Problem I am having is that when you run over objects (small rocks etc)
at speed, feels like someone is hitting underneath the car with a sldgehammer.

Any ideas on what my problem could be?
My shocks are just angled straight up and down (not backwards or inwards at all.. was thinking maybe angling them inwards could help?)

Also my front 2 main links are 80 series J arms flipped upside down,
these are fairly heavy, I was thinking maybe this could be the problem.

Thank heaps for any help :D

Are your draglink and panhard rod parallel?

Got some pics at all?

Check all the obvious things like worn bushes, bearings etc first.

Layto....

must be a hilux thing. flynns did the same. but his was his shocks hitting the coil mount, easy fixed by using the car and the shocks profiled themselves away from the coiol mount. im pretty sure it was just caused by soft bushes flexing back and hitting more firmly where the rear gets pulled through the front hit and pulls itself over obstacles.

his did it till the end.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

Paul, is it a 3 link + panhard or 80 series radius arms setup ?

Pics would be handy. Are there any marks where you can see something has been hitting ?
wtf is an acronym

Thanks for the answers, there are some basics there
I was kind of forgetting about - bushes / marks from hitting.. etc
sometimes froget the basics lol

V840 - The Drag link and panhard are parallel.
And Layto, I checked bushes, they are all good.

And Hekta, 3 link + panhard, using last hole of the j arm for
the outer two links.

And will get some pics
