im looking to buy a v8 2000 model disco for a daily driver/ tourer.
my disco knowledge is pretty limited (previous gq owner) so was just wanting to know what to look for, such as how many ks, any inherent problems, auto or manual,
and overall reliability.
any help is appreciated.

There are people on here that can be far more specific - BUT these were just part of my drama.
Awesome engine. BUT would never keep another one so long.

They're not all like that.
I've had an injector harness replaced, and a ABS sensor when it was a pup. They're about $250 to change.
The ABS/HDC/SLS issue is from a faulty ABS sensor, and it is squeeling brakes usually that send the sensors bad - in my case it was dislocating springs clunking out. It was under warranty at the time, but getting rid of any axle noise (springs + brake squeel) I've never had a problem since.
The other problem that can potentially but not always happen is popping an ATF line to the cooler.
Ive broken and cracked lots of things on the Disco, but everything else has been my own doing.

The original post said he was looking for a V8.
Rover V8 engines are extremely reliable as long as they have not been overheated, which can lead to loose cylinder liners.
Change the oil regularly and look after it and you will get a very long life from the engine. There are also no issues with the transmissions (auto or manual) if serviced well and driven sensibly.
They are a very comfortable vehicle and would make an ideal daily driver/tourer.
I dont own one, a couple of mates do. maybe ask here for more specific information on a Disco 2.

I have 99 V8 had it for about 5 months lovely thing to drive well it needs improving ATM because ive gone spastic on it

I like Auto personally better to drive more control speacialy if its a turing thing make sure it has ACE unbeleivable handling which ive managed to stuff up also
Over heated engine is the biggest killer however how are you to know
if your buying from a car dealer make sure it has under 100000km I paid $14 thou for mine it 94000km on the clock

we just bought the cheapest one we could find - a D1 V8 cost 3200 and spend 7K turning it into an off-road weapon (Maxis, lockers, Jac Macs, later gearbox, new power steer, 35's springs, shocks etc etc etc).
It's easily equivelent and often better in perfomance to GUs and 80 series that cost over 35K:)
Ha Ha, and it rides and handles better than them, and has never let us down - cept the light switch recently (but bought 2x 2nd hand ones from UK - for 40 dollars) - was my fault as I over-loaded the circuit.......
