hilux v6 conversion tips
hey all
i have all the conversion gear for the 3.8 into my LN106 which i took out of older lux
(VP ser 2, Marks adapter, T700)
just wondering if anyone who has done te converison can tell me what problems i might run into getting it all into my truck cause i want to knock the conversion over as fast as i can. ie: which things arent just bolt up and go.
I've heard i have to space the gearbox crossmember 25mm lower
weld in the passenger side engine mount
get a custom power steering pressure line made
Make up a high presure fuel system and return line
and find somewhere to fit in the computer
anything im fogetting??

Looks like you've got about everything covered, the marks instructions are very helpful and so are the fellas who work there.
I never had any dramas with my gearbox heights, tho i'm running a dyna box and have a 2in bodylift. One of my biggest dramas were the radiator hoses, ended up making some stainless offsets and bends.
The exhaust was a bit of stuffing around too. I'm using hi-tech headers which have pretty much been cut up and reshaped. There's probably an easier option out there.
The throttle cable wasn't too bad, using a GM cable i just followed the marks guide and made up a new plate to bolt to the fire wall.
For the fuel system I fabbed up a stainless 1.5lt surge tank and used a Pierburg lift pump and a Bosch high press supply pump. I think it is 3/8 steel fuel line for supply and return. I could put pics up the bits n pieces if needed.
Good luck buddy it's not difficult and at the end of the day it's just nuts n bolts

There is only about 8 or 10 wires plus a couple of relays to mate the V6 engine loom to the Hilux loom at near the fuse box - no adapter harness needed if you want to save about $400.
I grafted a VN tacho in my dash, but thats a bit "out of the square" for some, so I saved more $.
Get the top water hose for non ABS VR , it points to the front, not the side, look at the part number. For the top hose, I use a Comm VB 5.0L bottom hose with D/Craig sender soldered in to swagged brass tube.
Get the clutch slave cylinder sleeved with a S/S sleeve, not brass
You might want to consider LPG and a diff ratio change too.

forgot about throttle cable, so did you use the commodore one?
and what have you guys done for a temperature sender?

im thinking of puttin a older type american motor in i bought with all adapters for the old series 4 runners 84' ,\
its called an oddfire 225. buick as well , it came out in early jeeps as std.
a 3.0 litre with 4 brrl carby and extractors ! supposedly its a cut dowd 350 v8, to give it a weird oddfire firing , and idle. reading up on it says it was a good performance motor.
the installation i imagine is pretty basic, cable throttle,box mnt should fit to same g52 manual 4wd box and co clutch must fit as is on mtr.
the only worries i foresee are exhaust to run duals and clearance with my big tank id have to run two mufflers beside each other sideways in the original gap which is under part of the tank anyway,
then theres the radiator hoses,thats a mess already under my current set up i have a 22r with a diesl 4 core custom radiator with outlets both on one side of tank.
im still trying to create brackets to set up my power steering which was doubling off the aircon , that kept shaking loose and was not exactly in line with the belts and pulleys. what a headache! as i tried to keep original side of mtr positions to save renewing lines.guess ill have to put custom ones in for the v6 anyway.
has anyone else seen one of these in a 4rnnr or is this a one off?

You are sposed to drill out the V6 one's hole and tap a metric tread in there the same as the Hilux sender. I didn't, I just did something that looks bodge, but has lasted 13 years so far;luxadore wrote:what have you guys done for a temperature sender?
The rad fan output from the ECU now goes to a buzzer. If it gets hot, the buzzer sounds.
If you look at the top hose of mine, I used the 5.0 VB bottom hose and cut it with a brass tube for thermo fan sender. Also the rocker covers need to be swapped if you have the fibreglass ones to make adding oil easier;
The V6 bottom hose, I used a couple of 90 degree copper elbows from a plumbers supply, about 60 or 70mm, what ever the hose size is, and a couple of short lengths of straight hose.
I moved the wiper motor wires to go through a little bolt hole and the V6 engine harness goes through the hole where the wioer motor wires used to go, it's a perfect fit and the V6 Auto ECU is huge if it's VR or later. I got a VR manual ECU which is smaller. The VP auto ECU is also small, as the VP T700 does not have electronis shift controll. Anyway the smaller ECU fits perfectly behind the kick panel on pass side, like the Commodore

The hole faces up under the alternator, from memory there ain't much room and what about air bubbles? I used a four core WB V8 radiator (with auto trans cooler) with a 1 inch body lift, cooled it very well. The Marks coolant temp sender adaptor is $30 dollars to fit the original Hilux sender into the V6 - buy it. I had heaps of dramas getting the Torque converter clutch to lock up via the ECU, never got it working properly so can't give any tips other than make sure it is working.
