Talked my mate into a feroza over a sierra but i'minterested to know one thing.

This one we looked at is in good condition except for one whistle noise in i think the exhaust. The guy told us it's a common feroza thing but would like to confirm this. Only happens between 3000 and 4000 revs...

Also is it relatively easy to do a 2" lift on these?

The whistle in the exhaust is common. new exhaust system will fix that.

2" lift will be fine without any changes to be done.

If your going to lift 50mm then you will need to

lengthen the vacuum line to the brake booster - the valve is in the line so dont chuck out.

Move or extend the small vacuum lines to the idle up sol and MAP sensor

Check the bottom radiator hose isnt rubbing on the alternator belt

Lower the fuel filter ( loosen in bracket and slide down ).

Wait is 2"= 3cm or 5cm? I have done 3 cm and nothing else to change on the car.

By 2" lift are we talking body or suspension or both? You lose downwards wheel movement in the front end if you just try and do it with the suspension only. It can make large bumps interesting....

The whistling will most likely be a cracked exhaust manifold if it's still got the stock one fitted? Remove the tin heatshield and the problem should be obvious.
Extractors will be $300 odd plus fitting. ;)

we are talking about 2" suspension only as i can imagine a body lift is alot more involved (ie more things to extend etc)

my mate has been quoted $1060 for the lift kit (4 shocks, 2 leafs, and shackle bushes) from pedders. Is this a fairly reasonable price? where else should i get a quote from?

We had pretty much assumed that the whistle was a hole somewhere is the exhaust but a little putty should be an ok temparary fix untill a new system can be afforded?

with a 2" lift he is looking at about the 31" tyre size, what are the rest of you running?

Actually a 50mm body lift is dead easy with only the mods I described, some bolts and the spacers - cost $50. Takes about 2 hours to do but your bumpers will be out of place so a bit more work afterwards..

Personally some body lift is a quick and easy place to start.

Without body lift......

depending on the actual diameter of the tyre, 31's will touch the body.... you may have to space the upper bumpstop to stop it happening otherwise it will crack the A pillar but this also limits travel.

your also going to have to wind up the front torsion bars lots which will loose droop travel ( and we didn't have much to start with ) which will hurt its off road capabilities.



Do a search and you will find lots of discussion on Feroza suspension, but unless your into major mods then you will just have to live with the basic setup.

so hello all and thanks alot for the help.

From wat i have read a 2" suspension lift isnt too bad even with an almost fully wound out front (mixed opinions all over the forums but this seems to be the way it sway) and i have been reading that you could possibly offset the winding of the front by installing progressively reducing spacers.

Other that that on the leaf front i have read that it is possible to get some leafs from other vehicles to lift the back? what ones are we talking about and wat would this mod involve.

mightymouse when u say those mods need to be done for a 50mm lift are you talking BL or suspension? If BL wouldnt you need to extend things like brack lines etc as the body of the car is now higher than the chassis?

is it a better approach to lift the car by a mis of suspension and BL? for example a 1.5" lift on both?


Done alot of reading and it is suggested that to compensate for the IFS you can lower the front diff ect (i have considered this but thihnk it would be best left till later when i have more time and experience of the car)

With 50mm body lift apart from the things I mentioned nothing else needs to be done - or at least on mine it didnt...... I have 20mm Rear & 50 front

If you "raise" the suspension then your going to hurt the already limited front suspension. Lowering the diff is simply a way of helping the front CV angles, I have heard it discussed by others but whilst in theory its a good idea I don't know of anyone who has actually had a CV problem, so ????

Its easy to do - bolts and spacers, but it does bring the front drive shaft a little further out of the transfer and you loose ground clearance and the diff becomes vulnerable to damage unless you remake the skid plate.

I have lowered my front diff but it has twice the travel of a stockie and had to be done to clear the sump and has more SERIOUS mods than I care to admit too.

So IMO do a body lift to clear the tyres and change the suspension only where necessary to make it work properly.

And lastly - you do realise that 31's on a Feroza is going to make your gear ratios even worse than stock ? 100K cruise in 5th isnt going to be much and offroad its not a good thing. As you can't get low range gears ( or anything else for that matter ) think very carefully about what you do as any compromises you make - and with a Feroza there will be lots, will affect everything else.

IF you are actually going to do serious off road driving then your going to strike lots of mechanical challenges - if its you daily driver and its the look your after then either way will be fine.

And just as an aside - you also realise that it aint going to be legal...

I have a 2in lift plus 31s and half wound up front I get low range and I have had no problems mech wise and 5th gear 120 cruise easy

There's a guy in Minto who does a lift kit for Feroza, the place is called "the ultimate suspension" and they are on the web.
