I'd be thinking the series 3 as well - just be aware that you will have to rev your car a bit harder when driving at freeway speeds - but it's all good :cool:

what's the difference between series 1 and 3, other than just more reduction? any changes in reliability or wear and tear on other components?

Series 1

Correct - series 3 is even lower than series 1. Both will fit inside a 1.3L transfer case.

There will be greater wear and tear on transfer case mounts... And to a degree - the whole car - because you will be wanting to drive harder stuff :cool:
