We are promoting this as the last Woodpecker, because unless the club finds a new venue reasonably close to Sydney this will be the last one  . You can never say never, but don't hold your breath for WP 08. All the more reason to make sure you don't miss this one.
Damn... Woodpecker is mine and Podge's anniversary... our first snog :D will be six years this year
I bet he regrets goin to that woodpecker :D
Wasn't that the one he went end over end?

Any Logan Club members keen to come down for this event? We are looking for 1 more team member. Dont need a car just a member on the ground. I am leaving sometime Friday afternoon from either Darra or Greenbank as soon as Buddy can get off work. I have 2 spare seats in a VT Commodore Wagon. You will need to take Monday off work as im not planning on driving through the night for someone to get to work Monday. All it will cost you is a share in the fuel. Its on LPG so it wont be much.

Can anyone varify what the story is with spotters this year? Is it only 2 spotters per team(pair of vehicles) or the same as allways?

what i have been told is your spotter and team mate spotter are the only ones on course.

Not the drivers and spotters of your whole club.
can anyone else confirm?

This is what i need to know. As we dont want to bring 9 members from our club all the way from QLD for no reason.

Well .... only 2 weeks to go!'
It's all looking good.
The track has been bunted and just waiting on scoring and banners to be complete!
To answer some of your questions, there will only be the 2 navigators and drivers on the track at one time. If one drivers is timed out, he can help his team mate as well. The rules are essentially the same as last year other than that, the final decisions on bonus lines and any other minor changes will be made at next week's working bee, after which I will email them out to all the teams.

Silly ... you don't drive down "The Face" ... you go up ... it's the appropriately named "Sphincter Rock" you drive (or roll) down!
In fact only 2 cars have rolled there ... Gordon Short making a grand entrance in 2004, being 1st car off the rank, and so creating the habit of putting a strap on the back to prevent another interesting descent. The only car since was Brian from Southern Tablelands last year in the most spectacular of all. when he thought he could drive out of a situation where he had one wheel on the ground and one up a tree!

Is there any reason for the change?
:?
It was great to have the whole team on the track helping and cheering you on.

This is one of the things i really enjoy about Woodpecker. It really is a team event when you have a heap of your club on the course with you.

If part of the problem stems from me starting the tug-o-war up Jack Hammer in the mog a few years ago then outlaw this if you dont want people driving the courses this way but please let us all compete as a complete team. Its not the same otherwise.

It's the main reason why I take on the Team Manager's role, it is the only time of year I get to exercise.

I think you'll find it's a safety issue with to many people on the track at once, it's to hard for a driver to see where everyone is and there were some close calls last year, so it,s back to how it was pre 2005.

It would be great if we could find out a little earlier than soon. Its not easy organising 9 guys to travel to Sydney from Brisbane. If we cant have everyone on the course at once we need to know ASAP.

Rules have just been advised:
· All of the club’s team members competing are allowed on the track (ie the other 2 drivers, 4 navigators and team manager) to pack.

We do get our annual exercise session :)

they are there to only pack and not pull the 4wd up the hill like a tug of war and as the car moves forward up the track all the navi's apart from the main 2 must remove themselfs from the track

This will be almost impossible to police. And very difficult for the teams to enter and leave the course with spectators watching.

Won't be difficult at all. There is a 'corridor' along which officials and media are allowed to travel between the track bunting and the spectator bunting, the team members will be asked to stay there unless needed. We don't want anyone but the driver's navigator near the car whilst it is in motion, the driver is focussed on his driving and navvy and would not be able to 'watch out' for his team mates and consequently risks injury to them. The marshalls will be watching and anyone who doesn't comply will risk their team losing safety penalties. We have had many complaints about the risk of having so many people on the track, so instead of banning the extra team members altogether as some would have it, we have decided to let them assist by packing ahead and coming to the aid of a 'stuck' vehicle. Just trying to keep as many people as happy as possible :)
