Winch questions

Post by Nev62 »

Just got a new winch off ebay (12000lb) and have a couple of questions.

What should be done to the cable to help protect it (lanolen? grease?)

What type of battery (cranking, deep cycle, AGM)?

Is battery location important (already have dual starting batteries either side of the radiator)?

Any issues with mounting the solenoid inside the engine bay?

s usual try and get the battery as close as possible to the solenoids and then as short as possible again to the winch. only put grease on the wire if it isnt going to be used very often, they are made from stainless type steels so wont rust. the grease will just get dirty and make it harder to clean. if you use the winch just unspool it when you get home and hose/wipe it down.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
