FJ73 front end wobble

as soon i get around 80kms it gets a bad wobble in the steering , that bad that my old mand driving behind me can see the front tyres vibrating and there is also no sighn of tyre wieghts missing and all the bushes and shocks are brand new as well as steering dampener
any help will be appreciated

sounds like a wheel balance problem ,need to check all steering joints and check for movement ,

jack up the axle so the wheel is of the ground and check for wheel bearing or king pin movement

if you have movement in the wheel b or kp ,get some one to put there foot on the brake if you still have movement its king pin bearings if no movement its wheel bearing and it needs adjusting

check wheel nuts to

has this happend after a wheel , has it come in gradually or slowly

if you can change the front tyres with another set and see if it improves

is it leaf sprung? if so check your u-bolts..

Wheel Ballence/Wheel alligment???

I put my Car in a Ditch a couple of Weeks ago, Had the same problem... Got the shakes as soon as i hit 70kmph....

I just got a new wheel allignment and i had tyres replaced coz they were bald and seems to of fixed the problem

I had a similar problem. I think it was a combination of a rim close to its max run out and front end needing some castor correction.
My 73 would mainly do it on slight bends and it was heaps worse with a trailer on.

check your wheel bearing aswell. thay can couse u to some of the road if they r loose.

i got it from not cleaning the mud off my wheels - all clumped up on one side behind the tyre.

Thought i needed a balance went to the mechanic and he just laughed at me and told me to clean my car.

how are the bushes in the leaf springs?

If the 73 is sumwhat lifted, your caster is out...my old 60 did that to me, it would shake uncontrolably until i had slowed to a stop...balance starts it going, and the rest is reaction to the initial...made my gearstick hit my leg it was that bad....

i also had the issue and it was bent rims and warpped tyres. I would suggest putting you front rims on the back, then if the entire car shakes it is a rim and tyre problem.

You need to use diff wedges under the springs to turn the diff back to where caster is correct...as you lift, the diff rotates with the spring lift around the fixed spring shackle, on the 7* thats the rear one....i would start by ringing a 4wd steering specialist....the other way is to put some packing under the front side of the diff pads and weld there, and hope it doesnt fall out.
