hey everybody,
My 1983 hilux with a 2L engine has developed a very loud heavy knock,it appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. Does anybody have any idea what this could be? for the last few months the car has had a ticking sound but it has never been overheated and has not used any oil.
any ideas on what it could be are much appreciated as i cant get it to the mechanics for a few days.

Could be a number of things. Broken Rocker on one of the valves, Conrod Bearing(big end), Loose Flywheel or a Broken piston.
A broken rocker will make the engine miss badly and is a fairly easy job to replace.
A broken piston can but wont always make the engine miss badly. Full overhaul of the engine. (basicaly its terminal at this point)
A worn big end will make the engine knock badly but wont allways make it miss. Usually requires a regrind of the crank and re-sizing the conrods.
Loose flywheel is the most uncommon but i have seen it happen before.
If your in Brisbane and it turns out you need an engine replacement PM me. I have a perfect late model 2.4 Turbo motor that will fit straight in complete with 2.5" exhast. Can hear running in the car.
