Tyres - what to get?

I am looking at getting some new tyres for the Rangie. It currently has 35/12.5-15 ET2's . I couldn't belive how much these have gone up since I last bought them. They are no $415/tyre which puts them in the same price range as the swampers.


So, I have the choice of :

1. Simex ET2's
2. Swampers TSL
3. Silverstone Extremes


The Silverstones are like $100/tyre cheaper......but they are 40mm less diameter and 50mm narrower!


Any thoughts on these 3? Any other options I have not thought of?


Beiong in Melbourne they need to be a good mud tyre and the Rangie is not an everyday drive.

Bit smaller than a 35"

Had silverstones and went back to simex's , they were looser in the fast stuff and worse on the road, but a little better in the mud

plus the silverstones measure up in real life a fair bit smaller

plus the silverstones measure up in real life a fair bit smaller

they measure around 35.5 inches diam.

they drive well on the road. well as well can be expected.

Thanks all,

I think I have dedcided to keep my old tyres for a bit longer and spend the money on other things.

But I was asking around today and the majority seemed to think the extra money for the Simex's was worth it. There seems to be a few people who have tried the Silverstones then gone back to the Simex.

they drive well on the road. well as well can be expected.

Must be sized better than the Extremes' cause they come up an inch short, side by side with a simex

there wear out like there no tomorrow the old Silverstones and if you use them for daily driving start saving for another set soon I had them on the Patrol and I was lucky to see 10000km out of them and the other thing is there always flat well mine where I had to get inner tubes put in

I have run 285/75R16 Silverstone MT117 Sports on my D2 for months now and I couldn't be happier. I moved from 32" BFG Muds and I have found the Silverstones wear much better and have performed much better than the BFG's on road, mud, loose stuff etc etc. Plus they cost me $228 p/tyre fitted and balanced as opposed to $300+ for the BFG's for a similar size.
Depends largely on the car, how you drive and what pressures you run of course but mine get a flogging off road and are nursed on road as best i can (I run at 38psi on road and 14psi off)

X2. I also went from BF's to the Silverstones, more to do with the fact that I punctured one 2 months after buying them (and at $300 a piece, I wasn't happy ). Much better than the BF's (naturally) off-road, on-road is a bit of a comprimise but my Rangie is an off-road vehicle so I can live with it.

I was looking at the Simex but it was all a matter of $$$ at the time. If I went 35's I would spend a bit more and go Simex but the 33's do the job ATM
