anyone done it? i got the motor doing nothing, and a mate wants to buy a gen 1 to have some fun in.. so maybe we can drop it in if its easy enough to do? :?

A 1.8? It will rev OK, but where is it going to work well? Lacking in low down torque, not a great deal of power up high. It may be OK for the exercise, to prove you can do it, but I reckon you'll quickly become disappointed with the result.

Or does it have a turbo???

Wouldn't expect that to be a (major) problem. I believe the 4G62 block should fit pretty well anywhere a 4G63 goes - and a 4G63 apparently replaces a 4G5x without much hassle.
