GQ Auto box issues

Just spoke with John on the mobile.

Hes having issues with his rebuilt box, where it wont change down gears - eg stuck in top.

No matter how slow he goes, if he boots it, it doesnt shift down.
He can manually change it from what he said, but not by itself

any ideas? Shift solinoid??

Is the TPS on top of the injector pump plugged in? Does it shift up normally?

Couldn't get it looked at today, it's going in tomorrow.

The Gu wasn't there.

I'd put my money on the TPS. Sounds like either no reading (unplugged) or it is just set wrong so it can't tell where the throttle is.

They say i need a new TPS. None around in the wreckers. The diesel unit has 6 pins and most others have 3.
We thought of pinching Bogged's of his truck until we realised that was a 3 pins as well.

Just tracked one down in W.A. Will see if that fixes it all.
Getting a bit over these Auto issues...

The TPS can in today and they fitted it up and all is well now.

TPS = $193.00
Labour = $330.00

to fit a TPS?

man you have gotten ripped

even at 80$ an hour thats about 4 hours labor!!!!

Before dropping a comment like that, how about hearing the full story. There quite possibly will be diagnosis time in this price, fitting one to a diesel isnt a 5 min job to get right.

If it turns out that all was done is a remove and refit of tps, then we can judge labour pricing.

before dropping a comment like your one, realise that the diagnosis for a TPS by a mechanic takes about 3.2 seconds.

If you called a plumber over to your house you woudl not accept him spending 4 hours labour to diagnose a leaky cistern valve.

Having gone through this with my auto a few years ago, I have to conclude that the TCU will give a TPS fault code even when you fit a new TPS. It can be caused by a lot of other faults, so if the person doing the work isn't experienced with GQ TPS issues then 4 hours would dissappear before they had figured a thing!
I fitted a new TPS and ran new wires to the TCU, replaced the TCU and still got intermittent TPS fault codes. It cn be a very hard thing to fix weter you know what you are doing or not.
But if I got charged $330 to fix a TPS fault and that is all they said then I'd be asked 1 or 5 questions!!!!!

I think it worked out to be $60.00 P/Hr x 5 hours.

I thought it was a tad excessive as they are an Auto specialist and I had just spent $3,000 getting the auto rebuilt.

But it is working great now and I'm happy with that.

Not so happy that there are switches that weren't put back into the dash and were just left hanging out.
Also not happy that the lights to the instrument cluster aren't working and they wont look at it until next week.

I'd take it back and say that aint good enough... mention your dissatisfaction and waiting all the time - thats a fuckup from yesterday! Why should you wait a week!?

well they called, my box is in.. ready for auto spark, who is in shitney for a week, and he wants to do it at OnTrack.. so I gotta somehow get it there, and T- it up with them...

Im not impressed, was to be ready 2 weeks ago.
