Driving without sub tank ?

I wanna take out the sub tank on my petty 80s to mod the mounts so I can lift it up higher, to do this it will be out of the vehicle for a few days.

If i block off the outlet pipes on the transfer pump and disconnect it I assume it would be ok to safely drive the vehicle ???

i dont see why it would be a problem.
just make sure u block the hoses of securely.. especially with todays fuel prices

Not sure if it is the same as a prado but mine has a mind of it's own, say I use the sub-tank first for one reason or another, as soon as I flick to main tank it transfers fuel into the sub tank and fills it again ever so slowly.

Major pita imo and shocking for planning trips

IIRC the Prado came out factory with around 150+ litre single tank!
But he's asking about an 80 series

Petrol 80s do transfer from sub to main when you hit the sub button.

Block the pipes up properly, don't hit the sub button, and all will well (I'd assume )

It does this because you are supposed to use the main tank first then the sub tank. The fuel return from the fuel rail is into the sub tank. Not the main tank. There is a return from the sub tank to the main tank if it over fills while running on the main. At least this is how i understand it.

Solenoid in the diesel 80 and 100 cruisers is dual port, switches both supply and return lines. I have pulled them out before. Buggers to get to at wreckers with car on belly.

Should be no connection between the tanks. Seperate fill lines, breathers, supply and return for each tank.
