A few tech Q's for actual winch challenge competitors. I have designed and built comercial winchs before so i have a very good undertanding of the true performance calculations, but i would love some real world feedback of 4wds.
what would be an average loaded line pull in a comp situation, basically are they up a hill with part traction and only really requiring 2000-3000lb ??
and muddy bog holes with resoanable drive would 4000lb be an average figure.
(i still understand a minimum of 9000lb would also be required)
would being able to spool in/out at 50-60M/min ( and @ upto 500lb load) be alright instead of an easy free spool ALA highmount ??
has anyone ever done any REAL testing on there winchs to check performance?? after mods?

What do you mean by real testing?
I have done a bit of testing using dynometers and some of the figures you are talking about are correct.
But if you are pulling up over a pinch or crest and can't get you rope high enough your loads increase drastically and some time to the levels as if you were lifting the entire vehicle weight

at obc we got so stuck took 1.5 hours and 3 low mounts doing double line pulls and a tractor to get us out.
so thats 18000 x 3 + a tractor - med size jonn deer
so how does 54000 lbs + a tractor sound?
That said truck weighed 2980kg fully loaded inc drivers and a std highmount with 6hp, and reduced drum pulled us up the winch wall reasonalbly well. It was maxed out though.
cheers bru

so this was a std highmount (6hp) pulling ~8-9000lb @ ~2-3m/min??bru21 wrote: That said truck weighed 2980kg fully loaded inc drivers and a std highmount with 6hp, and reduced drum pulled us up the winch wall reasonalbly well. It was maxed out though.

Wouldnt have said it was a Med size. More like an over size ride with Aircon.bru21 wrote:at obc we got so stuck took 1.5 hours and 3 low mounts doing double line pulls and a tractor to get us out.

But that was a hard pull.
Also I wouldnt say Viewmont mud is your normal winch challenge mud. As most winch challenges there is a bottom to the bog hole. That lagoon had no bottom.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
