Gear box carnage.

Post by Kev80 »

Last night my brother blew up the g/box in the Hilux. :bad-words:

Apparently the teeth have stripped on the input shaft & lay shaft, a common problem with the V6 converted Hiluxes so im told.

Just looking for parts & some advice, i take it theres not much chance of making the box stronger .

Also thinking about swaping for an auto.

Parts wanted thread.

Marks also do an alternative gearbox. It is apparently from a Dyna Truck and is supposed to be Heavy Duty. I have heard mixed reports about them with some people saying they are bullet proof and others saying they are no stronger than the original lux box. I think they are $2500 or so but you can check it out on their web site.

When I was considering a commodore motor in my lux I was looking at the Turbo 700 conversion. The transfer adapter from Turbo to transfer is about $1K so not too bad.

I have also read about the Dyna box but sounds like the gearing may be too low for street use + can't afford it.

Looked at the 700 auto but i already have the 5-speed adaptor conversion & think the engines/ computers are different between man & auto.

Looks like we are fixing the old box.......anyone have spare parts ???

The other thing with the T700 Auto is, in my MWB Cruzar, I would have had to have moved the Tranny Case backwards 200mm...

May be different on the Luxes, but then again, may be the same...

Gearbox carnage

Why not go for a gearbox out of a Rocky, dam strong and should handle a V6 without a problem,as from what i remember the box is also used in the three tonne delta 4x4 trucks. :)

Never heard of the Bundera box fitting, sounds good.

We picked up a imput shaft & lay shaft for $150 today. :D
Will keep the old box going untill next time.

BTW- i noticed the spiget bush was missing from the flywheel from the last larry who pulled the box out.......any ideas what this could cause ? :bad-words:
