coil's or airbags in the rear ?? possible QLD Cert ???

Post by oozuk »

For those who don't know me i've got an 87' LWB Zuke and i was thinking about setting up either SPOA All round or Just SPOA front and Either coils or Airbags in the rear on an A-frame Setup ....

Can anybody shed some light on the subject as coils i've got an idea about but it's the airbags i know shit all about!!!!

Is it possible to certify a coil or airbag conversion in a origonally leafsprung car ?????

this is a shady area for me so any help would be greatily appreciated

I dont believe that any suspension mod that requires removing the leaf springs is legal in Qld. I have gone down this trail before and even with engineer approvals it is still not 100% guaranteed. Our laws up here are sooo weakI had mine SPOA and lasted not even a fortnight before I was caught and had the choice of being deregistered or modified back to manufacturers specs... It ended up being a costly and time wasteful exercise.. Mind you, if its not a daily driver you would probably get away with it...

you should be able to get it certified. just depends how much pasero($$) you are willing to part with.

My brother in-law has a 99 nirvara, currently turbo'd standard engine, airbags in the front on custom drop control arm, 2" body drop, bagged rear end etc.

He is in the process of making a fully tubed out rear end(yes the chassis has been chopped and capped in-line with the back of the cab and all the tube work builds from there) with air bags using the rear IFS suspension from a nissan 200sx(I think, bazooka knows the model it came from).

He is also talking some crazy arse mofo engine swap.

All of this will be certified and registered for road use.
