Cooper Discovery ST tyres

Hi

Tried a search so don't say do a search...lol

Was checking my tyres the other day and noticed some of the knobs had big cracks through them and look like they could rip off at any time.
I do remember reading a post a while back saying that the coopers did this.
I was thinking of trying Micjy Thompsons next but not because i think they are better but just for a comparison. I am driving a GU 4.2TD

Do all mud tyres do these or are the coopers prone to this?

I've got a set, fine onroad, but do exactly as you describe when used offroad. I have quite a few tread blocks partially missing. They are a hard compound tyre and that is the price you pay for the k's you get out of them.

I can confirm this as well. I have tread removed back to the steel radial and bits of steel radial hanging out right around the outside of one tyre. Needless to say I don't have them on the car anymore as they are a time bomb.

Also note I have a hair line fracture on the inside wall running perpendicular to the rim on one tyre and the other tyre completely split in the same fashion. These were the front tyres.

When you take ST's offroad don't deflate them, don't conservatively 4WD, don't get them dusty and when you get them wet be sure to wipe them down before storage in the garage.

Mickeys MTZs have done the same vSAHARAx had them on his 60 and it was extremely well looked after and only did a couple of trips off road and tore them up badly. My MTRs also have some small chucks out of them. I bought these second hand so dont know how rough they were treated. These are my road tyres as i have Swampers for off road and they are soft and round the edges off more than chip unless abused on rock then they still get cuts. hope this helps. Cheers Mick
