does anyone know if there are lower ratios available for an 89 hilux than 4.1, something a company makes aftermarket for example.

Yes, they are in the Hiace van diff as an example.

Hiace vans only go as low as 4.1 AFAIK.

You can find 3.7 in some of the later 2WD hilux's. I think they were the V6 Auto ones. And in the current shape hilux there is a 3.5 available. But not sure what configuration you need to look for to find these.

Toyota makes 15 G code diff ratios for arround the world
From 3.07 through to 6.8
6.8 was used in the Toyota 25 made in the early 60s

I have seen 3.7 ratio in Hilux with 2.7 motor
